The life of the characters in Chen's novels

Chen (1837- 1920), whose real name was Yu Sheng, was later named Ke Yuan and was called Mr. Ke Yuan. Chen Jiashi lives in Nanjing, and his great-grandfather Chen Shou is a student. His grandfather Chen Weiyuan and his uncle are both scholars, and his father Chen is a scholar. Chen studied at the age of 4 and began to study history at the age of 1 1. Studied in Zhongshan College and Yin Xi College successively. In the first year of Guangxu (1875), he was promoted. Then he gave up scientific research and devoted himself to education, literature and history. He has served as a teacher of Chongwen Classics School, president of Kuiguang Academy, and county heads of Shangyuan and Jiangning counties.

In the thirteenth year of Tongzhi (1874), Chen participated in the compilation of Shangjiang County Records, which was the beginning of his entry into the field of local chronicles. Three years later, the biography of Jinling was compiled, and five years later, the biography of Jinling was compiled. These two books, one chapter and two words, describe the history and culture of Nanjing in detail. The Five Records of Jinling is Chen's representative work, in which The Records of the River refers to the Qinhuai branch river, which starts from Doumen Bridge in the north, Fenfen Earth Bridge, Caoqiao Bridge to Inner Bridge in the east, and Zhanggong Bridge in the west, with water as the warp and bridge as the weft, and records the streets, temples, gardens and customs between Wan Li and other places. In addition, there are the foothills of Menxi Wind, the city of Mendong East, the hometown of Jinling, and the Buddhist temples in the Southern Dynasties. Later, Chen instructed his son Chen Yi to continue to write two kinds of chronicles: "Local Records of Huaibei, NANBERT ZHONG" recorded landscape garden figures in Zhongshan South and Qinhuai Hebei; Records of Shicheng Mountain was published in 19 19. These historical records are of great reference value to the compilation of Nanjing Tongzhi today.

No.20 Anpin Street in jianye district is Chen's former residence. Built in the first year of Guangxu, there is a garden behind the house called Keyuan. "Qinhuai Record" says: "Keyuan is located in the west of the south main road bridge, where Mr. Chen lives. There are Shouzao Hall and Ruihua Hall, which are not very wide." It is also a gathering place for literati, including Zhu's former residence, Tianhou Palace, Anhui Guild Hall, Shaanxi Guild Hall and Shen Shi's private residence. Unfortunately, most of the buildings in the past were destroyed. Keyuan's former residence was listed as a district-level cultural protection unit as early as 1984, but there are messy houses in the deep house compound. In this century-old house, there lived Mr. and Mrs. Chen, their grandchildren when they were 80 years old. The old couple lived on a pension, and their three children often came to take care of them, so they lived comfortably in their later years. The old man's only concern is the house left by his grandfather, hoping to be maintained and protected in his lifetime, so that people can remember Chen's name.
