It starts from the west of Zhangjiajie in the north, passes through Furong Town, Guzhang West, Jishou East, Fenghuang Ancient City, Mayang West, and ends at Huaihua South. It has 7 stations and a total length of 245km, radiating the main cities in western Hunan.

Western Hunan is also called the Xiangxi region. Due to its remote location and inconvenient transportation, it has always been relatively underdeveloped, with relatively concentrated rural areas with lagging development.

The Zhangjihuai High-speed Railway has greatly shortened the time and space distance for local traffic. In the past, the fastest time from Zhangjiajie to Huaihua was 3 and a half hours. Now it only takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive. It has also brought remote villages such as Shibadong Village along the line into the high-speed rail era, driving the production of rock sugar oranges, tea, kiwi fruits, etc. in western Hunan. Specialty agricultural products take the high-speed train to speed up regional rural revitalization.

The Zhangjihuai high-speed railway line passes through the Wuling Mountains and multiple water systems. There are many nature reserves and scenic spots along the way. The climate in the mountainous areas is changeable, making construction difficult.

According to statistics, the Zhangjihuai High-speed Railway has 280 bridges and tunnels, with bridges and tunnels accounting for more than 90% of the total length, and less than 10% of the lines on flat ground. The stations, tunnels and bridges along the entire line are basically built in mountains, cliffs, and fields. It is also known as the "cloud high-speed rail." Its construction required overcoming a series of difficulties such as complex geological conditions and variable climate in mountainous areas. Chinese railway builders used advanced technology to successfully complete the task.

The Zhangjihuai High-speed Railway is a "golden tourist line" and passes through many famous scenic spots, such as Tianmen Mountain, Aizhai Bridge, Furong Town, Fenghuang Ancient City, etc. The scenery along the way is picturesque and is known as "The most beautiful high-speed rail in western Hunan".

At the same time, the stations along the line combine local cultural elements to achieve "one stop, one scene". For example, the appearance of Jishou East Station is like a flowing landscape, and the Fenghuang Ancient City Station is designed to look like a combination of mountains and stilted buildings. The Zhangjihuai High-speed Railway and the Jiaoliu Railway are on the same bridge. On the bridge is the "Fuxing" EMU, and under the bridge is the green train. This gives people a deep sense of the rapid development of China's railways.

As a regional connection line of my country's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network, the Zhangjihuai High-speed Railway operates 16 pairs of EMU trains with an initial operating speed of 300 kilometers per hour, making passenger transportation more convenient and frequent, and assisting along the line.
