What does the symbol of the centenary of Peking University mean?

Peking University's school emblem can be traced back to 19 17, which was designed by Mr Cai Yuanpei, then president of Peking University, at the request of Mr Lu Xun. On this school emblem, the two seal characters "Peking University" are arranged up and down, in which the word "North" constitutes two back-to-back side portraits and the word "Big" constitutes a front standing portrait. The school emblem highlights the school's philosophy of running a school, that is, the university should be "people-oriented"
