Mandela International Day +0 165438+2009 10. In recognition of former South African President nelson rolihlahla mandela's contribution to the culture of peace and freedom, the United Nations General Assembly declared Mandela's birthday on July 18 as "nelson mandela International Day".

General Assembly resolutions recognize nelson mandela's value and contribution to human society in conflict resolution, race relations, promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality, rights of children and other vulnerable groups, and improvement of poor and underdeveloped communities. The General Assembly also recognized his contribution to the international struggle for democracy and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.
