Dingxi: The scientific "bean" industry is booming

"The most important thing for planting broad beans is to choose high-quality seeds. For example, Qingcan No. 25, which was sown today, was sown during the unusually dry climate last year. , the yield per mu of planting under mulching film has reached more than 230 kilograms, and the benefits are good..." In April, at the demonstration base in Xinmin Village, Fuxing Town, Longxi County, the Dingxi Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Edible Bean Industry Technology System from the Dingxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences Webmaster researcher Lian Rongfang is guiding growers to plant broad beans.

Edible legumes, mainly broad beans and peas, are specialty cereal crops in central Gansu. They are not only high in protein content and rich in nutrients, but they are also the main crops for crop rotation and soil fertility. Every year, the planting area of ??broad beans and peas in Dingxi City is about 500,000 acres.

For a long time, due to the extensive management of growers, broad beans, peas and other edible bean varieties have been mixed and severely degraded. New edible bean varieties with strong stress resistance, high and stable yields, high quality and wide adaptability have been selected and screened. It has become a new topic for agricultural researchers.

Dingxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been engaged in the breeding of peas and other edible beans for more than 50 years. In 2008, the edible bean research team of the Dingxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences entered the national edible bean industry technology system and assumed the work of the Dingxi Comprehensive Experiment Station.

Focusing on the development needs of the edible bean industry in Dingxi and surrounding areas, the Dingxi Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Edible Bean Industry Technology System cooperates with agricultural technology extension departments, farmers' professional cooperatives, large growers and processing enterprises to focus on broad beans, The integration and demonstration of new pea varieties and key technologies for increasing green production and efficiency will provide scientific and technological support for the development of the local edible bean industry.

Today, the Dingxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences has preserved more than 1,200 edible bean germplasm resources, mainly peas, and has bred 13 new dryland pea varieties of the "Dingwan" series and a number of excellent new strains, which have been introduced Six new broad bean varieties of the "Qingsi" and "Linsi" series were screened out.

Seed germination test, seed sorting, sowing... At present, team members of the Dingxi Comprehensive Experiment Station of the National Edible Bean Industry Technology System are busy in the fields. This year, they introduced more than 100 excellent germplasm resources of edible beans, mainly peas, from China.

After recent years of development, the Dingxi Comprehensive Experiment Station of the National Edible Bean Industry Technology System has established more than 10 experimental demonstration bases in five demonstration counties: Anding, Tongwei, Longxi, Lintao and Zhangxian. Through the introduction of improved seeds and technical training, the newly selected "Dingwan" series of pea varieties, the introduced and screened "Qingsi" series, and the "Lincan" series of new broad bean varieties have been demonstrated and promoted on a large scale.

Among them, the new dryland high-starch pea variety "Dingwan No. 8" has been demonstrated and promoted in large areas in Tongwei, Longxi, Anding and other pea planting areas, allowing farmers to taste the benefits of planting improved seeds. . The selected broad bean variety "Qingcan No. 14", after years of trials and demonstrations, has shown the advantages of higher and more stable yields, stronger stress resistance, and stronger adaptability than local varieties. It is currently being promoted and planted in all counties and districts in Dingxi City.

"We will take serving the 'agriculture, rural areas and farmers' as our mission, driven by scientific and technological innovation, and contribute to the breeding of fine edible bean varieties and industrial development in semi-arid areas, so that farmers can truly enjoy benefits!" Rongfang said.
