What is the difference between Xinjiang County and Jiangxian County?

Xinjiang County and Jiangxian County are not the same place. The county governments of the two counties are 35 kilometers apart. The differences between the two counties are as follows (as of August 31, 2019):

1. Different geographical locations

Xinjiang County is located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, at the northern end of Yuncheng City, bordered by Luliang Mountain to the north and Emei Mountains to the south; Jiangxian County is located in the northeastern corner of Yuncheng City and the northwest foothills of Zhongtiao Mountain. It is located at the junction of Yuncheng, Linfen and Jincheng. It is adjacent to Yicheng County in the east, Wenxi County in the west, Yuanqu County across Zhongtiao Mountain in the south, and Yicheng County and Quwo County in the north from east to west. Surrounded by the county and Houma City.

Xinjiang County has a total area of ??597.18 square kilometers and 530,000 acres of cultivated land; Jiangxian County has a total area of ??996 square kilometers and a cultivated land area of ??450,000 acres.

3. Different administrative divisions

Xinjiang County is divided into eight towns, one township and one district, namely: Longxing Town, Sanquan Town, Zezhang Town, Beizhang Town, Gujiao Town, Quanzhang Town, Yangwang Town, Wan'an Town, Hengqiao Township, Commerce and Economic Development Zone; Jiangxian County is divided into eight towns and two townships, namely: Haozhuang Township, Gujiang Town, Lengkou Township, Nan Fan Town, Chencun Town, Mali Town, Anyu Town, Weizhuang Town, Hengshui Town and Dajiao Town.

1. Historical evolution of Xinjiang County

In April 1947 (the 36th year of the Republic of China), Xinjiang County was liberated and the Xinjiang County People’s Government was established government. In the autumn of this year, it was bounded by the Fen River and Jiangnan County to the south. It belonged to the Third Taiyue Administration, stationed in Wenhou Village, and still governed the Wenxi Beiyuan area. To the north is Xinjiang County, which belongs to the 10th Prefecture of Shanxi-Sui Luliang. In August 1948, Jiangnan County was merged into Xinjiang County, and both belonged to the 10th Special Administration Bureau of Shanxi-Sui Luliang. Both the special agency and the county government are located in the present county seat.

In February 1949, the Shannan Administrative Office was established, located in Xinjiang, with three divisions. Xinjiang District governs seven counties including Xinjiang, Jishan, Hejin, Quwo, Xiangning, Jixian and Fencheng. In June 1949, the Shannan Special Administrative Office (based in present-day Linfen City) was established, and Xinjiang belonged to the Shannan Special Administrative Office. At the end of 1949, the Yuncheng Administrative Office was established, and Xinjiang belonged to the Yuncheng Administrative Office.

In November 1958, Xinjiang was merged into Houma City and belonged to the Shannan Special Administration Bureau. In November 1961, it was separated from Houma City and restored to Xinjiang County, which still belongs to the Shannan Special Administrative Region.

In 1970, southern Shanxi was divided into two regions: Linfen and Yuncheng, and Xinjiang County belonged to the Yuncheng region.

In 1979, the Yuncheng area was renamed the Yuncheng Administrative Commissioner's Office, and Xinjiang was still one of the counties under its jurisdiction.

In 2001, Yuncheng evacuated land to build a city, and Xinjiang County came under the jurisdiction of Yuncheng.

2. Historical evolution of Jiangxian County

In 1954, it belonged to the Southern Shanxi Special Administrative Region.

In November 1958, the organizational structure of Jiangxian County was revoked, with the eastern part belonging to Yicheng County and the western part belonging to Wenxi County. The county boundaries were under the same jurisdiction as above.

In May 1961, the organizational system of Jiangxian County was restored and it was affiliated to the Shannan Special Administrative Office.

In 1970, the Southern Shanxi Administrative Office was divided into Linfen and Yuncheng Administrative Offices (later changed to the Administrative Office), and Jiangxian County belonged to the Yuncheng Administrative Office.

In 2000, the Yuncheng Office was changed to Yuncheng City, and Jiangxian County was affiliated with Yuncheng City.
