(3) Foreigners must hold: ① my passport or other identification and nationality certificates; (2) Alien's residence permit issued by the public security organ, or identity certificate issued by the foreign affairs department, or temporary entry and residence certificate; (3) A certificate of marital status issued by a Chinese notary office certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or an organ authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the embassy or consulate of China in that country, or a certificate of marital status issued by the embassy or consulate of China in that country.

Article 1049 of the Civil Code stipulates that married men and women should apply for marriage registration in person at the marriage registration office. Those who meet the requirements of this law shall be registered and issued a marriage certificate. Marriage is established when marriage registration is completed.
