Overview of Changxing Island Shipyard

Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard, also known as China Captain Xing Shipyard, belongs to Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard Group (abbreviated as Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard). On June 3, 2008, it officially bid farewell to its homeland and moved to Changxing Island. Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard, located at the southeast end of Changxing Island in Chongming County, Shanghai, officially started construction on June 3, 2005. The first phase of the project covers an area of 560 hectares, uses 3.8 kilometers of coastline, builds four large docks with an annual shipbuilding production capacity of 4.5 million tons, and has three shipbuilding production lines. It is the largest shipbuilding base in China with the most advanced facilities and international competitiveness. After three years of intense construction, the first phase of China Shipbuilding Base was completed ahead of schedule today, which also announced the commissioning of the largest and most advanced shipyard in China. The first ship built by the new factory was delivered in 2009.

Changxing Shipyard also has the ability to build large ships, including aircraft carriers. The largest dock in the factory is 580m long and120m wide, which is enough to build an aircraft carrier similar to the Varyag. In fact, a dock for building an aircraft carrier has been revealed in the scale model of Changxing Shipbuilding Base exhibited by China Shipbuilding Industry Company.
