Waterproof index grade of down jacket

The waterproof index of down jacket is 1 to 5. According to AATCC standards of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, the waterproof test grade of down jackets is divided into five grades: 1 grade, preferably from poor to 5 grade. ISO takes degrees as the measurement standard, and the difference between 50 degrees and 100 degrees is better.

Level 5 of AATCC is equivalent to 100 degree of ISO standard. Usually, the waterproof standard of outdoor down jacket clothing must reach grade 4 to grade 5, and 90 degrees to 100 degrees to meet the requirements.

Advantages of waterproof down jacket

Although the waterproof down jacket is hydrophobic to a certain extent, it is not completely waterproof like a raincoat, but has the characteristics of faster drying, durability, water splashing prevention and warmth retention than ordinary down jackets.

In humid environment, the fluffy performance of waterproof down jacket is much better than that of ordinary down jacket. Keeping more air chambers can also keep you warm. In addition to the effect of preventing water splashing, dust and dirt are not easy to adhere to the surface of down jacket, which can also prolong the natural service life of down jacket.

In a humid environment or when encountering water, the general down jacket will instantly absorb enough water, resulting in the disappearance of the air chamber and the decline of the warmth retention effect. However, due to its splash-proof effect and hydrophobicity, waterproof down jacket can be separated from water when it encounters moisture, thus keeping the air chamber trapped to maintain the thermal insulation effect, and drying faster than ordinary down after cleaning, saving drying time.
