Alashan League is an alliance under the jurisdiction of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, located at the westernmost end of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, bordering Jiuquan, Zhangye, Jinchang, Wuwei and Baiyin in Gansu Province in the west, facing Zhongwei, Wuzhong, Yinchuan and Shizuishan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region across Helan Mountain in the southeast, Bayannaoer, Wuhai and Ordos in the northeast and Mongolia in the north.

Alashan region is one of the birthplaces of ancient humans. According to archaeological evidence, humans existed in Ejina Banner of Alxa League in Paleolithic Age. The occurrence and discovery of the microlithic culture, the representative of the Neopaleolithic transition period, further proves that the ancient Juyan area is the connection point between the eastern and western stone tools.

In the Neolithic Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, northern nomads carved tens of thousands of ancient rock paintings in Helan Mountain, Mandela Mountain and Longshou Mountain, which became important physical materials and precious cultural heritage for studying the early religious beliefs, life customs and economic life of ancient nomads. At the end of primitive society, in the Shang and Zhou dynasties of slave society, there were footprints of ancestors' life in Yin, Shang and Zhou dynasties in the weak water basin and Juyan seaside.
