What is the difference between the wall erected by the United States on the US-Mexico border and the Berlin Wall in Germany?

The establishment of the Berlin Wall in Germany after World War II can be said to be a contest between two ideologies and development models, in which the same nation and the same culture were artificially and forcibly separated. Under the background of the Cold War at that time, it was not only a landmark event, but also had a far-reaching impact on Germany as a unified nation-state.

German fascists surrendered unconditionally in 1945, and the alliance of Britain, America, France and the Soviet Union lost its foundation of existence because of the disappearance of its opponents. However, the idea of splitting Germany is consistent among them. In the Potsdam Agreement, several heads of state negotiated on the military occupation of Berlin. Charles de Gaulle said: Each occupied area "manages its own occupied area in the way it thinks it should". Stalin also said that whoever occupied this place would impose his own social system on it. Two Germans were born.

1961August 13, the former East Germany (GDR) set up an "anti-fascist defense wall" to isolate East and West Berlin. Since then, the two Berliners inside and outside the Brandenburg Gate have become two worlds: there are no defensive measures on the west side of the city wall, and ordinary people can walk all the way to the wall. In the east, buildings with a width of more than one hundred to several hundred meters along the wall were all leveled, forming a no-man's land (called "dead zone") where people are forbidden to approach. There are barbed wire fences, patrol lanes for military vehicles, watchtowers, reinforced concrete bunkers, automatic signal alarm and automatic shooting devices for machine guns, patrol lines for police dogs, searchlights and high-powered glare lights. There are many car pits, scarifying areas and checkpoints.

Not only that, but also in the political, economic and even cultural systems, the two sides are completely opposite. East Germany almost completely copied the Soviet model, and the Soviet Union's economic briefing to East Germany was "rushed", basically squeezing all the economic achievements and industrial and agricultural output of the Soviet-occupied area to the Soviet Union like toothpaste, while Britain, France and the United States, on the contrary, provided complete assistance to revive the economy on the basis of confronting the Soviet Union.

For many people at that time, the Berlin Wall was not built to keep West Germans out, but more like a prison to prevent people from East Germany from fleeing to West Germany. Therefore, since the establishment of the Berlin Wall, people have been trying to cross the Berlin Wall and flee to West Germany, and many of them have died.

According to the American authorities, the wall between the United States and Mexico was set up to prevent smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal trade. Regardless of the specific political and economic purposes, the United States and Mexico, as two independent democratic countries with different political, economic and cultural backgrounds, do not have the historical background and content when the Berlin Wall was established, so they cannot be compared.
