The origin of Arbor Day,

March 12 every year is the Arbor Day in China. In fact, this day is the anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death. Determine this day as Arbor Day. First, consider the planting season. The second is to commemorate the achievements of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in advocating afforestation all his life.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen loved planting trees since he was a child, and there is still a 100-year-old Honolulu sour bean tree growing in his former residence. This is 1883. Sun Yat-sen, who was only 18 years old, brought back saplings from Honolulu, USA and planted them himself. Under his careful training, he finally became a useful person.

Sun Yat-sen was also the first person in modern China who strongly advocated afforestation. He personally drafted the political document "Li Shang Hongzhangshu", and proposed that China must "develop agriculture urgently and re-cultivate art" if it wants to be strong.

After the Revolution of 1911, Dr. Sun Yat-sen put forward the plan of large-scale afforestation in North China and Central China. 1924, in a speech in Guangzhou, he emphasized that the fundamental way to prevent floods and droughts is to continuously plant trees and build forests on a large scale. In addition, he repeatedly emphasized the harmfulness of deforestation and the importance of afforestation in many books and speeches, and planted trees himself.

At the initiative of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, on July 30th, 19 15, China first designated Qingming as Arbor Day. 1925 March 12 after the death of Sun Yat-sen, it was decided to designate March, the day of Sun Yat-sen's death, as Arbor Day to commemorate his contribution in advocating afforestation.
