Geographical location

Kinmen Artillery

A battle that took place in and around Kinmen from August 23 to October 5, 1958 . The two sides of the Kuomintang and the Japanese used shelling across the sea as the main tactical action, so it was called an artillery battle. The artillery battle was first initiated by the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and the Kuomintang troops subsequently began to counterattack. Launched at 17:30 on August 23rd. In the early stage of the artillery battle, the People's Liberation Army attacked military targets on the island. In the later stage, it focused on blocking the shipping lines to besiege Kinmen. The mutual shelling between the two sides lasted for twenty years and officially stopped on New Year's Day in 1979. In fact, the Chinese People's Liberation Army had the advantage in this artillery battle. The Kinmen Artillery Battle was part of the Civil War between the Kuomintang and Kuomintang and was the last large-scale contest between the land, sea and air force of the Kuomintang and Kuomintang. After this time, the military conflicts between the two sides were limited to the sea and have gradually ceased to this day.
