Why is personal branding decided by others?

Personal brand, I define it myself. I think it is a more consistent impression and reputation held by relevant people. Many people say that they have a personal brand, but I really want to say that whether you have a personal brand or not is decided by others and has nothing to do with you. In an administrative position, you learn a lot of other malleable knowledge, which is of great benefit to your career development. However, it is really not up to you to decide whether it can become your personal brand. It is not your personal brand just because you have learned it. On the contrary, if your writing ability and speech level are very outstanding in the eyes of others and form your own label. In the eyes of others, you are a writing expert and you are a speech expert, then it is your personal brand.

Human beings have their own cognitive basis, and many things will be misunderstood. For example, you want to convey to others that you are a very capable tour guide. Everyone has found a large number of your travel photos and insights on your Moments, WeChat, Weibo and other social platforms, but there is relatively little information about tour guides. Then other people's impression of you may not necessarily be about your tour guide ability, but they may think that you are a travel expert. Where exactly is your personal brand? Maybe he is not the tour guide you think, but the travel expert that others think. In this way, misunderstanding occurs, and your personal brand is not what you think it is. Therefore, personal brand is the impression and reputation others have of you.

You think you are conservative, others think you are open; you think you are rigorous, others think you are careless. This is because there is a discrepancy between what you say and do and what others understand. In the end, you may really feel that you are not the person you know.

Personal brand also has three characteristics: uniqueness, relevance and consistency.

First, if you want to build a personal brand for yourself, you must make your personal brand unique. In other words, this personal brand cannot be the same as others. To set a distinctive personal brand for yourself, you need to have a point of view.

The second basic characteristic is relevance. Personal brand is closely related to our image. For example, when a girl comes across from you wearing black stockings, a miniskirt, and high heels, what do you think of? If the other person tells you that she is a college student, do you think her personal image is related to your image of college student clothing? This is the so-called relevance, that is to say, all the things you bring out that are related to your personal brand must have a certain form of association.

The last one is consistency. To put it simply, it means that your words and deeds must be consistent, and your personal behavior must be consistent with the image and way of doing things that you have created as a personal brand. If you have an introverted personality, you should not wear revealing and open clothes; if you work efficiently, your work style will be vigorous and resolute, at least without procrastination. With this consistency, it will be easier to convey brand value.
