Why is the word "Ji" written with auspicious brushwork written with dirt on it?

The first half of Ji is written in earth, which is a calligraphy habit, and there is nothing wrong with it.

From the etymological point of view, the origin of auspicious characters is knowing, the upper part represents weapons, and the lower part represents containers. Putting a weapon in a container means a truce and indicates good luck. The writing of local prefixes can be said to be a variant. In folklore, local prefixes are often used, which means good luck.

Many of the calligraphy fonts we see now are not sure whether we are familiar with them. That's because calligraphy pays attention to brushwork and modeling. Calligraphy has changed its strokes or shapes in order to look good.

Evolution of auspicious characters:

Auspicious words are knowing words. The upper half of Oracle Bone Inscriptions's "Ji" (Figure A) (Figure A 1) was originally a simplified form of Figure (A2). Figure (A2) shows the shape of a tall bowl named "Bean", which is filled with food from ancient ancestors and gods.

As a part of the word "Ji", the mouth at the bottom of the word "Ji" refers to steps, shrines, tables, thresholds and so on in ancient times.

Judging from the whole word structure of "Ji", putting food full of "beans" on the altar means that there are auspicious things at home. So the original meaning of the word "Ji" is "Geely".

Figure (b) is still Oracle Bone Inscriptions, but the "beans" and "food" in figure (A 1) have been materialized into the shape of figure (B 1). The word "Ji" developed to the bronze inscription stage in Figure (c), and even changed Figure (B 1) to Figure (C 1).

Therefore, the seal script of the Qin Dynasty (Figure D) and the official script of the Han Dynasty (Figure E) inherited the form of bronze inscriptions and later developed into the character "Ji" in regular script (Figure F). Now simplify writing "Ji".
