Evolution of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Nanchang University

School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established in 1958. Its predecessor was the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Jiangxi Institute of Technology. Since its establishment, it has changed its name and surname after years of migration.

1958 In September, Jiangxi Institute of Technology was established, that is, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established. 1959 the department of mechanical and electrical engineering was renamed as department of mechanical engineering, and two new majors, casting technology and equipment and forging technology and equipment, were added to recruit four-year undergraduate students. 1960 the three majors of machinery and casting and forging were changed to recruit five-year undergraduates.

In April, 196 1, some first-year students of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology transferred to Jiangxi Institute of Technology as mechanical majors.

1969, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology merged with Jiangxi University to form Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, and department of mechanical engineering was renamed Jiangxi University of Science and Technology department of mechanical engineering. In the same year, the Department of Agricultural Machinery of Jiangxi Agricultural College was merged; Jiangxi University of Science and Technology moved to Wuning County.

1983 the majors of forging and forging and engineering thermophysics began to recruit master students, which was the earliest batch of master students recruited by Jiangxi Institute of Technology.

1985, Jiangxi Institute of Technology was renamed Jiangxi University of Technology. According to the requirements of the school, some teachers in the department of machinery were diverted and a new department of food machinery was established. In the same year, mechanical and casting majors began to recruit graduate students.

1987 awarded master's degree of "metal plastic processing discipline" to forging specialty, and 1989 awarded master's degree to mechanical specialty, casting specialty and engineering thermophysics specialty.

1993, Jiangxi University and Jiangxi University of Science and Technology merged to form Nanchang University. Department of mechanical engineering was renamed the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and its major was adjusted. Mechanical manufacturing technology and equipment, casting technology and equipment, forging technology and equipment, internal combustion engine and other majors. Be adjusted to mechanical engineering and automation, cars and tractors. Under the leadership of Academician Pan Jiluan, then president of Nanchang University, some faculty members were diverted to set up the Institute of Mechanical Electronics, which became the key research institute of the school at that time and reached the domestic advanced level in the fields of mechanical manufacturing technology. In the same year, the discipline of metal plastic processing was awarded the first doctoral program in Jiangxi Province, which was later the doctoral program of material processing engineering.

During the period of 1995, Nanchang University was restructured. The Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, the Department of Automation, the School of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, the Institute of Power Electronics and the Research Center of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering merged to form the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, with He Chenghong as the president and Xiao Ankun as the secretary.

1999, in order to better adapt to the development of higher education reform, the school readjusted the original college, and the Department of Automation was separated from the Institute of Power Electronics to form the Institute of Automation. At the same time, based on the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering and the School of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, a new School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established. In 2000, the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering obtained the first post-doctoral mobile station material science and engineering in Jiangxi Province.

In 2003, according to the professional characteristics and the development direction of the college, the subordinate departments (centers) of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering were reorganized into: department of mechanical engineering, Power Engineering Department and Engineering Training Center.

In March, 2005, the College renamed the six teaching and research sections under its jurisdiction as six institutes (centers), namely, the Institute of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, the Institute of Electromechanical Science and Engineering, the Institute of Advanced Forming Manufacturing and Mould, the Institute of Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, the Research Center of Vehicle Engineering Technology and the Institute of Modern Design.

In August 2006, the college moved to the electromechanical building of Qianhu campus as a whole, and the school-running conditions were greatly improved.
