Motech was established in 1981 under the name of Meter International Corporation. It started by designing and producing advanced measuring instruments, and then devoted itself to the solar photovoltaic industry. In 1997, it established the photovoltaic division and became Taiwan's The first solar cell manufacturer, the original measuring instrument division was called the Instrument Division. In order to cope with the expansion of the company's business territory, Motech changed its English name from Meter International Corporation to Motech Industries, Inc.

Based on Motech’s professional knowledge of instruments and solar energy, and on the premise of promoting the use of solar energy, Motech established the Electric Power Division in 2002 to engage in the design and installation of solar photovoltaic systems to reduce Environmental pollution during power generation. In 2003, "Modern Technology for a Sustainable World" became Motech's corporate slogan to emphasize our belief in maintaining a sustainable environment. Since 2004, Maodi Instruments Division has begun to develop solar inverters, key components of solar power generation systems, and in early 2012, it sold the assets of its measuring instrument division to long-term customer B&K Precision Corporation (B&K Company) in order to focus more on the solar energy industry. In May 2012, Maodi further merged the Instrument Business Department and the Electric Power Business Department into the Instrument and Electrical Business Center, integrating the resources of these two departments, and hoping to provide customers with more professional and complete services.

Motech’s headquarters and various business divisions are located in Taipei and Tainan. Motech passed the certification of ISO14001 environmental management system and OHSAS 18001 occupational safety and health management system on December 20, 2006, becoming the first solar cell manufacturing company in Taiwan to pass both certifications at the same time.

Motech passed the TOSHMS Taiwan Occupational Safety and Health Management System verification on January 5, 2009.

In 2009, Motech's total output reached 360MW, making it one of the top ten solar cell manufacturers in the world. Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. On December 31, 2006, Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Motech, was established to further consolidate and expand the Chinese mainland market. Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. is located in the Renewable Energy Industry Base of Kunshan High-tech Zone, Jiangsu Province. It broke ground in March 2007 and was successfully completed and put into production in September 2008. By the end of 2009, the production capacity reached 130MW.

In 2010, Motech's total solar cell production capacity reached the milestone of 1GW. With such proud achievements, Motech has been ranked among the top ten solar cell manufacturers in the world for many years. In the same year, we began to launch high-efficiency module production lines in the United States, Japan, and mainland China, striving to enable our customers to enjoy local attentive services and excellent cost advantages no matter where they are in the world.
