But when buying carbon frames, you still have to buy regular brands because there are many copycat carbon frames. It is a first-line brand of abrasives, but the carbon cloth has shortcomings, which directly leads to a decrease in strength and can easily lead to breakage.

The advantage of the carbon frame is that it is light and high-strength. The disadvantage is that it is sensitive to bumps and other hard injuries and has poor repairability.

The carbon frame is made of carbon fiber-epoxy resin composite material.

The benefits of carbon frames are:

1. The strength of carbon fiber is about twice as high as that of common steel of the same volume. After processing and forming, its strength in the designed stress direction is also significantly higher than that of steel. At the same time, the density of this composite material is only about 1.3, that of steel is 7.65, that of aluminum alloy is 2.7, and that of titanium alloy is 4.2. In terms of weight, carbon composite materials have obvious advantages.

2. If you divide the strength by the density, you will get the concept of "specific strength", so that you can get the minimum weight required to meet the same strength requirements. Using the above method, it can be concluded that under the same strength, the weight of the carbon frame is 1/12 of the steel, 1/8 of the aluminum alloy, and about 1/5 of the titanium alloy. This is theoretical data. In fact, in order to ensure the rigidity of the carbon frame, its thickness must be appropriately increased during production, and the weight of the actual produced carbon frame must be increased by at least 1/3.

The main disadvantages of carbon composite materials are:

Carbon composite materials are anisotropic materials. In the direction perpendicular to the main force direction, the strength is much lower, or even only the main force. About 1/10 of the force direction, if it is subject to lateral force, such as a bump, etc., it will be easily damaged.

2. Carbon composite material is a non-repairable material. It is composed of carbon fiber or carbon fiber cloth bonded by an epoxy resin matrix. It is insoluble and insoluble. Once the structure is damaged, there are no repair methods. It can only be glued, and even if it is glued, the strength will drop a lot. As the main stress-bearing part, it can no longer be used.

3. Carbon composite material is a very brittle material. When the force is too large, it will have a "shattering" effect, rather than the "distortion deformation" effect that occurs in general metal materials, that is to say, it will be damaged. There was no way to "just make peace" in the end. Once the frame broke on the road, we had no choice but to carry it back.

The processing and production of carbon composite materials requires very high craftsmanship. If it is not produced by a well-known large company, its quality is difficult to guarantee. Therefore, if you want to buy a carbon frame, you can only contact regular large manufacturers and cannot buy it online. Or buy it at a roadside store, it’s cheap but not good.

In fact, for non-professional athletes, if the frame is a few kilograms lighter, it really has no obvious effect and is not cost-effective at all. Unless you really have plenty of money, it is not recommended to buy a carbon frame.
