The commemorative coins for the 24th Winter Olympics are planned to be issued by the People's Bank of China, including 21 commemorative coins (including 2 ordinary commemorative coins and 19 gold and silver commemorative coins) and 2 commemorative banknotes.

On March 25, 2020, the People's Bank of China issued an announcement to solicit artwork for the commemorative coins of the 24th Winter Olympics.

From February 4 to February 20, 2022, the 24th Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. This is the first time in China's history that it has hosted the Winter Olympics. Beijing will also become the first "Double Olympic City" in the history of the Olympic movement to host both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics. To celebrate and commemorate this event, the People's Bank of China is preparing to issue commemorative coins for the 24th Winter Olympics.

On March 25, 2020, the People's Bank of China and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee") officially signed the 24th Winter Olympics Games Commemorative Coin Issuance Agreement. According to the issuance agreement, the People's Bank of China will issue 2 ordinary commemorative coins, 2 commemorative banknotes, and 19 gold and silver commemorative coins starting from 2020.

On December 28, 2020, the People's Bank of China issued an announcement that the two ordinary commemorative coins of the 24th Winter Olympics originally planned to be issued in 2020 will be adjusted to 2021.
