In the summer of 1931, Mao Zedong wrote about the second counter-encirclement and suppression campaign with the words: "Driving seven hundred miles for fifteen days, the vast blue waters of Gansu and the green mountains of Fujian swept through thousands of troops like a rolling mat."

In early summer, Gutian Town, Shanghang, western Fujian, is full of green mountains and gurgling streams. Members of the "Red Culture Study Tour" wearing red military uniforms sang revolutionary songs and walked into the Gutian Conference site to pay their respects. On the mountain behind the conference site, eight large red characters "Gutian Conference will shine forever" are solemn and eye-catching.

The site of the Gutian Conference was originally the "Liao Clan Ancestral Hall", also known as the "Wanyuan Ancestral Hall". This makes Liao Yongzhong, a villager in Xibei Village, Gutian Town, very proud.

In 1917, the first primary school in Gutian, "Hesheng Primary School", was established in Wanyuan Temple. In May 1929, the Fourth Red Army entered Fujian for the second time and changed the name of "Hesheng Primary School" to "Shuguang Primary School". To this day, the slogan "Protect the School" left by the Red Army still remains on the outer wall of the Gutian Conference site.
