During the May 4th Movement, together with his classmates, he participated in demonstrations despite the obstruction of the school authorities, and led female teachers and students to form a propaganda group to promote a boycott of Japanese goods. Later, he organized a student self-government association at the school to sharply criticize the feudal school rules that restricted students, forcing the school to cancel various prohibitions. In 1921, the female teacher took the lead in cutting short hair, and no less than a hundred people in the school had their hair cut short within two or three days. Students from other female schools responded one after another, creating a new trend of hair cutting for women in Jiangxi. In November 1924, Yang Yinyu, the president of the Female Normal University, unreasonably rejected the students' request to dismiss incompetent teachers and claimed that she and other leaders would be punished, which aroused strong dissatisfaction among the students. In January of the following year, the Student Government Association passed a resolution to expel Yang Yinyu. However, due to obstruction and sabotage by the Ministry of Education of the Beiyang Warlord Government, no resolution has been reached. She became angry and decided to expel these six people, which aroused outrage among students and intensified the trend at Women's Normal University. On August 10, the Ministry of Education of the Beiyang Warlord Government announced the dissolution of the Women's Normal University and sent more than 400 armed military police and gangsters to the Women's Normal University three times to force students to leave the school. She personally led the students to resist to the death, and sent a message to all walks of life: "I can die, but my ambition is unswerving, and if I am more powerful, I will swear to die and die for the school." Finally, outnumbered, she was dragged out of the school and locked in a damp hut. , still steadfast and unyielding. In November, as the revolutionary movement surged in the north, important members of Duan Qirui's government fled Beijing. On the 30th, female normal college students returned to school and issued a declaration of resumption. On December 11, classes officially started, and she hosted a party for more than 300 people to celebrate the victory of the school resumption struggle. On March 12, 1926, Japanese warships bombarded the Nationalist Army at Dagukou, arousing great indignation from all walks of life in Beijing. On the 18th, more than 180 groups including the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, the General Chamber of Commerce, and the Student Association, as well as more than 5,000 students from various schools, held the National Assembly in Tiananmen Square to protest against the imperialist banditry that violated China's sovereignty and demanded the expulsion of the ministers of Britain, the United States, France and other eight countries. Exit the country and hold a demonstration after the meeting. She was suffering from a cold and vomiting at the time, but regardless of it, she served as the conductor of the Women's Division Parade and walked at the front. When she arrived in front of Duan Qirui's executive government, she was shot by his guards. 47 people died on the spot and more than 200 were injured. This was the "March 18" tragedy that shocked the whole country. She unfortunately died at the age of 21. On April 1, Lu Xun wrote an article "In Memory of Liu Hezhen", praising her as a "true warrior" with the spirit of "capable, determined, and indomitable" and a young man who "died for China." !
