What should I pay attention to when introducing pig breeds from other places?

The formation of pig breeds is the result of long-term natural selection and artificial selection in a certain area and under certain conditions. Therefore, they have strong adaptability to local environmental conditions. In order to make use of heterosis and cultivate new varieties, the following matters should be paid attention to when introducing from other places:

(1) When selecting pig breeds for crossbreeding according to the goal of economic crossbreeding or cultivating new varieties, we should choose the pig breeds with good results of local crossbreeding combination test, or refer to the experience of similar local areas before deciding which pig breeds to introduce. For improving and cultivating new varieties, the economic types and production performance of imported pig breeds should meet the needs of breeding work, and varieties with strong heritability should be selected. Pay attention to individual selection, make clear the pedigree, and the purchased breeding pigs are not related. To investigate whether their parents have genetic defects, they should have a pedigree card for breeding pigs and keep it for future reference.

(2) Understand the variety characteristics, climate, feeding management, etc. It is necessary to understand the local climate conditions, feed resources and feeding management methods, as well as the characteristics of varieties, so as to determine the local domestication measures after introduction and create the necessary feeding management conditions. For example, when southern pigs are introduced to the north, they should be introduced at the end of spring, so that they can spend the autumn and winter when the temperature drops gradually after summer, and do a good job of cold protection after winter, and gradually enhance their cold resistance. Diet and feeding methods should conform to their original habits as far as possible, and gradually adapt to the natural conditions of the introduction place after slow changes.

(3) Young pigs should be introduced at an early age, which has strong adaptability and is easier to accept the changed external living conditions. Therefore, it is best to introduce young pigs about 5 months old or a little older when introducing pig breeds.

(4) Other precautions should be introduced in a planned way, and the variety should not be too much. The newly introduced pig breeds should not be raised separately, but should be concentrated in one or several pig farms, and the feeding management and introduction observation should be strengthened to facilitate the gradual promotion after breeding. In order to prevent the spread of epidemic diseases, imported pig breeds must go through quarantine. When imported from other places, it should be kept in isolation for 1 ~ 2 months, strengthen epidemic prevention measures, pay attention to the prevention and control of endemic parasitic diseases and infectious diseases, and ensure the safety of pigs.
