Briefly describe the Northern Expedition?

Between 1926 and 1927, the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang, waged a revolutionary war against imperialism and the Beiyang warlords. In order to completely overthrow the reactionary rule of the Beiyang warlords, in July 1926, about 100,000 National Revolutionary Army troops officially launched the Northern Expedition from Guangdong in three groups, with Chiang Kai-shek as commander-in-chief. The Ye Ting Independent Regiment of the Fourth Army, with members of the Communist Party and the Communist Youth League as its backbone, served as the advance team of the Northern Expedition. They were brave and skillful in fighting and won the glorious title of "Iron Army". Under the leadership of our party, the broad masses of workers and peasants gave strong support to the Northern Expedition, allowing the National Revolutionary Army to advance rapidly. The West Route Army liberated Hunan and captured Wuhan, Hubei; the Middle Route Army liberated Jiangxi; and the East Route Army liberated Fujian. In early 1927, the Northern Expeditionary Army defeated the Beiyang warlords Wu Peifu, Sun Chuanfang and other main forces, occupied half of China, and achieved a great victory. However, at the critical moment when the Northern Expedition was advancing, Chiang Kai-shek, Wang Jingwei and other Kuomintang right-wing forces launched the "April 12" and "July 15" counter-revolutionary coups in Shanghai and Wuhan with the support of imperialism. At the same time, due to the impact of Chen Duxiu's right-leaning capitulationist errors, the party was unable to take correct measures to deal with emergencies. As a result, Chiang Kai-shek's reactionary clique stole the fruits of the revolution and established a new warlord rule. The vigorous Northern Expedition ended in failure.
