Diary of the 3rd anniversary of the Sichuan Earthquake

After three years of cold and summer, three years of autumn and spring, we have entered the third "5·12" after the earthquake.

In the past three years, from Haiti, Chile to Japan, major earthquakes have continued to strike the world. Looking at the tragic scenes of broken walls and separated flesh and blood, the scenes of fighting against the devastating Wenchuan earthquake can’t help but emerge before our eyes. Looking back on the more than a thousand days and nights in Sichuan that were arduous and magnificent, the suffering and perseverance, the tragedy and heroism made me sigh with emotion.

The Three-Year Promise of Rise and Crisis

Three years ago, a huge earthquake tore apart the land of Bashu. In the 100,000 square kilometers of land with broken mountains and rivers, what do the tens of millions of people who have lost their homes find home and work for? "Three years of basic recovery, five years of development and revitalization, and ten years of comprehensive moderate prosperity", and "after all the changes in the sea, a beautiful Bashu will be restored to the world", these are our solemn promises to the people in the disaster area and the people of the whole country.

With every promise made, tough battles for decisive victory were fought in the disaster-stricken areas. After a hundred days of hard work to resettle the people, the problem of transitional housing for 5.3 million households and 12 million people was solved in just over three months, allowing the affected people to resume their family lives as quickly as possible; after a thousand days of hard work in post-disaster reconstruction, we overcame numerous difficulties, " "Three-year goals and tasks have been basically completed in two years" have been achieved as scheduled; the development and revitalization of the 10,000-meter long-distance race has been coordinated to promote industry development, employment expansion, poverty alleviation and geological disaster prevention, and the sustainable development capabilities of disaster-stricken areas have been continuously improved.

Because of the appointment, firm and strong forces gathered in the disaster area. People in the disaster area stood up from the rubble and built their homes brick by brick. Party members and cadres fought in the most difficult and dangerous places, and demonstrated the advanced nature of the Communists with their actions of charging ahead and risking their lives. In the extremely difficult and severely affected areas, aid workers from 18 provinces and cities worked tirelessly on the front line day and night, and some of their comrades even rested here forever. How much dedication, how much hardship, how much perseverance in overcoming obstacles, created a miracle in the world!

The three-year agreement is not only a commitment, but also a responsibility. Today, we can happily report to the motherland and the people: post-disaster recovery and reconstruction have been basically completed, the economy and society in the disaster area have recovered rapidly, and are making strides forward on the road of scientific development.

Nirvana and rebirth

Reconstruction has indeed created a miracle. In the earthquake-stricken areas where the mountains and rivers were shattered in the past, it is now difficult to see the traces of the disaster. There are new looks and new scenes everywhere. This "new" is not a "new" that is copied as it is, but a completely new one, a rebirth after ashes.

The 38 towns that were hit hard have turned into charming towns with their own charm. The new county town of Beichuan was rebuilt off-site and rose in Yongchang Town, which was named by General Secretary Hu Jintao himself. The "Rebirth" sculpture on the cultural square conveys perseverance and hope. A museum of earthquake-resistant and disaster-reduction architecture has been built in Yingxiu Town, the epicenter of the earthquake. Domestic and foreign architectural masters such as Andrew, I.M. Pei, Zhou Fuyuan, He Jingtang, and Wu Liangyong have left wonderful works here. The Shuimo Town of Wenchuan on the Ancient Tea Horse Road is as poetic as a dream and is known as "the best example of post-disaster reconstruction in the world". It became the opening place of this year's China Sichuan International Culture and Tourism Festival. Chinese and foreign guests were all impressed and shocked by it.

The newly built residential buildings in Linpan in western Sichuan and in northern Sichuan after the disaster are harmoniously adjacent to green mountains and green waters. Beichuan Jina Qiang Village, Maoxian Moutuo Village, and Mianzhu New Year Painting Village highlight the rich regional features and ethnic characteristics. The new layout of the village, the new planning of the village, the new design of residential buildings, the organic combination of tradition and modernity, the perfect unity of style and function, show a brand-new scene of the new socialist countryside and embark on a path of modern rural development.

With scientific reconstruction, the infrastructure and public service facilities in the disaster area have achieved leapfrog development. Various buildings are not only more exciting, but also more functional. After the earthquake, more than 3,000 schools and more than 1,300 hospitals were built with scientific design, complete facilities and modern equipment. The earthquake resistance standards are generally above level 8.

The expressway from Dujiangyan to Yingxiu was completed and opened to traffic one year after the earthquake. The Chengdu-Guangzhou high-speed railway, which was started after the earthquake, has been put into operation. The construction of the Chengdu-Lanzhou, Chengdu-Guiyang, Chengdu-Kunming, Chengdu-Xi'an and Sichuan-Tibet railways has been accelerated. The history of "difficult roads" is changing. Industries such as electronic information, automobile manufacturing, and oil, gas, and chemical industries rose rapidly after the earthquake. The relocated and rebuilt Xin Dongqi Group prospered and became a world-class company. The reconstruction of disaster areas has not only achieved "standing up on the spot", but also achieved "jumping-off for development". A Taiwanese compatriot said that Sichuan's disaster relief and reconstruction efforts were like "breaking one's arm and turning upside down". Local people said that in today's disaster area, "the most beautiful things are the houses, the safest are the schools, the most modern are the hospitals, and the people are the most satisfied."

Phoenix Nirvana is a rebirth of higher quality and a new journey of magnificent life. What stands in the disaster area is not only the physical building, but also the incomparable confidence and strength. The reborn Tianfu is still beautiful, Sichuan is safer after the earthquake and is ushering in newer and greater development!

A new happy life

In disaster relief, life is more important than anything else; in reconstruction, people's livelihood is more important than anything else. Those who have lost their homes have found shelter, the young and old have been provided for, the orphans and disabled have been helped, and those who have sought help have been taught. This is most gratifying!

Life rekindles hope in reconstruction. The "Earthquake Baby" will celebrate its third birthday from birth to toddler. More than 2,860 "rebirth babies" were born safely, and the new life brought new hope to families who had lost their children. The lives of more than 1,400 orphans, elderly people, and disabled people caused by the earthquake have been properly arranged. They have no worries about food and clothing and live happily. Some families that were broken by the earthquake were reunited, wives got husbands, children got mothers, and thousands of reorganized new families started a new life.

In life, choose to be strong in rebuilding. "Ballet Girl" Li Yue realizes her dream of dancing in a wheelchair. Shi Guangwu, a "slogan man" in Qingchuan, started a new life with one arm. Huang Li, who lost her legs and left arm in the earthquake, founded the "Xin Qi Cheng" psychological assistance hotline to inspire others' faith and courage with her true feelings. There are also many ordinary people in the disaster areas. Their determination, strength and tenacity make us feel more deeply the greatness of the people and the meaning of life.

Life becomes better in reconstruction. With the care and help of the party and the government, people in the disaster areas have new employment opportunities and found a new way out of life. Walking into the simple and hospitable Taoping Qiang Village, you will see the bright smiles of the Qiang people matching the bonfire. Walking into Mianzhu Jiulong Town, which is crowded with tourists, there is a booming scene of rural tourism along with the peaches and plums. Walking into Qionglai South Baoshan, where the green tea tips are spitting out green, what rises with the smoke is the happy life of the people resettled in other places. After three years of reconstruction, people in the disaster area have not only lived in good houses, but are gradually living a better life.

Through disasters, live evergreen in creation, and future life will be full of hope. This is what we see as the most basic pursuit of the people. This kind of optimism, confidence and open-mindedness makes people love and respect life more, cherish the present and look forward to the future.

A spiritual home with deep roots and luxuriant leaves

A nation has been reborn through adversity. The Chinese nation has emerged from disasters time and again for more than five thousand years, and the great national spirit continues to flourish. . Accompanying the earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction is the spiritual growth and reshaping of Sichuan people's character. We have not only rebuilt a material home, but also a far-reaching spiritual home.

In rebuilding our homeland, we felt boundless love and received assistance from all directions. At the same time, the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement also shone brightly. "If you have hands, feet and a life, you can overcome huge difficulties" and "Exercise your own strength, shed your own sweat, and do your own things", two slogans on the self-built houses of the Qingchuan disaster-stricken people shouted out The self-confidence and pride of the people in the disaster area who did not wait for help and used hard-working hands to rebuild their homes are a vivid portrayal of the spiritual outlook of the disaster area and even Sichuan as a whole.

A major earthquake cannot stop the pace of cultural inheritance.

We have selectively preserved some of the tragic earthquake ruins to show to future generations, and worked hard to restore the Erwang Temple in Dujiangyan. Historical and cultural heritage such as watchtowers and Qiang villages have been properly protected. We have accelerated the construction of the cultural industry belt and the Tibetan and Qiang cultural corridor, which are rich in content. The various cultural activities demonstrate the latest achievements in spiritual and cultural reconstruction, and also fully reflect the diversity of cultural development.

Being grateful and forging ahead is a special spiritual power. Today, in the land of Bashu, deep feelings of gratitude to the party, the motherland, the people's soldiers, and the people of the whole country are flowing everywhere. The people in the disaster area have embedded their gratitude in the names of the rebuilt houses, schools, hospitals, and roads, written in the song "Because of You", and engraved it in the hearts of all Sichuan people. The kindness of a drop of water is reciprocated by a spring. The Yushu earthquake, the Zhouqu mudslide disaster, and the severe drought in Shandong have made the people of Sichuan empathize with each other and rush to help from thousands of miles away. Being grateful and forging ahead, knowing and repaying kindness has been deeply integrated into the blood of Sichuan people.

The great victory of post-disaster reconstruction is a history forged by faith and a symbol of the national spirit. The disaster-stricken areas in Sichuan have become my country's patriotism education base, socialist core value system learning and education base, national unity and progress propaganda and education base, and a window to showcase the vitality of China's development model and development path.

In three years, Sichuan has gone from tragic to heroic because we have a strong party, a strong country, a great nation, and a group of persevering Sichuan people!
