Danjiangkou Reservoir, the water source of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project, covers an area of 6.59 million hectares in the Hanjiang River and Danjiang River basins of our province, involving 29 counties and districts in Hanzhong, Ankang, Shangluo and Baoji with a population of 2.98 million. The total length of Hanjiang River is 1537 km, which is more than 600 km in our province. The total basin area is 95,200 square kilometers, which is more than 40,000 square kilometers in our province. Ankang is not only a water transfer area, but also a water conservation area, and it also bears the great responsibility of protecting the water quality of water sources. As the water source area of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project, serious soil erosion leads to the destruction of land resources, the reduction of water conservation capacity and the bad ecological environment. Sediment discharge silts riverbeds and reservoirs, which reduces the service life and utilization efficiency of water conservancy projects, worsens the water quality of Danjiang River, restricts the development of local economy, and also leaves hidden dangers for the water quality safety of South-to-North Water Transfer Project.
