Dantu District is located in the southwest of Jiangsu Province, around Zhenjiang City. The geographical coordinates are 119°15′-119°45′ east longitude and 31°15′-32°16′ north latitude. It faces Yangzhong, Yangzhou and Yizheng across the river to the east and north, Danyang to the southeast, Jintan to the south and Jurong to the west. It covers an area of ??611 square kilometers. Historical evolution

It was called "Yi" in the Western Zhou Dynasty. It belonged to the State of Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period and was named Zhu Fang. When Wu died, it belonged to Yue, and when Yue died, it belonged to Chu, and its name was changed to Guyang. In the Qin Dynasty, a county was established and it belonged to Kuaiji County. In the thirty-seventh year of Qin Shihuang (210 BC), Gu Yang was changed to Dantu. In the third year of Wu Jiahe in the Three Kingdoms (AD 234), it was renamed Wujin, and in the third year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (AD 282), it was renamed Dantu. In the ninth year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (AD 589), Dantu was deposed and sent to Yanling. In the third year of Emperor Wude of the Tang Dynasty (AD 620), Dantu was reinstated. In subsequent dynasties, the county was named Dantu. In July of the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), it was renamed Zhenjiang County.

After liberation in 1949, the urban area and suburbs were designated as Zhenjiang City, and the rural area was designated as Dantu County. In July 1958, the county was removed and merged into Zhenjiang City. In March 1962, the city and county were separated, and Dantu County was restored. Since its establishment. The Dantu County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Dantu County People's Government are both located in Zhenjiang City. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Dantu was affiliated to Zhenjiang Prefecture (region).
