In my country, "Venice of the East" generally refers to Suzhou.

Suzhou’s water, mountains and scenery are pleasant, and its natural environment is pleasing to the eye; Suzhou’s streets and lanes are adjacent to the river, and “all the people are sleeping on the river.” The water town is known as the Venice of the East.
