Is there a toll on Highway 51?

The May Day Expressway is free.

The highway free time*** is 21 days in total. The specific holidays on which highways are free are Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day, Labor Day and National Day. Therefore, the May Day Highway is free and there is no need to pay highway tolls. According to the holiday schedule formulated by the State Council, the May Day Expressway toll-free hours are as follows:

During Labor Day: from 0:00 on April 29 to 24:00 on May 3, the expressway is free for ***5 days. Free models include: passenger vehicles with 7 seats or less, including motorcycles allowed to drive on ordinary toll roads.

The time for toll exemption shall be based on the time when the vehicle leaves the expressway exit toll lane. For ordinary highways, the time it takes for the vehicle to pass through the toll lane of the toll station shall prevail. In other words, if you go on the expressway during the toll period and get off the expressway during the free period, you will not be charged. Conversely, if you use the expressway during the free period and get off the expressway during the toll period, you will be charged.

Measures for releasing vehicles during free time on expressways

Pressing is not required and the lever is lifted to release vehicles. During the toll-free highway period in previous years, congestion was caused by a sudden increase in the number of cars on the highway. Although it is free, you still have to issue a card to pass. The vehicle slows down before entering the toll station, stops to get the card to pass, and finally accelerates to leave. The whole process takes about more than a minute.

Since the National Day Golden Week expressway congestion, the Ministry of Transport decided to implement free crossings without issuing cards and raising poles. This greatly reduces waiting time and improves travel efficiency.
