Significance of asphalt

Asphalt is a dark brown complex mixture, which consists of hydrocarbons with different molecular weights and their nonmetallic derivatives.

Asphalt is a kind of organic liquid with high viscosity, which mostly exists in the form of liquid or semi-solid petroleum. Its surface is black and it is easily soluble in carbon disulfide and carbon tetrachloride. Asphalt is a waterproof, moisture-proof and anticorrosive organic cementing material, which is mainly divided into three types: coal tar asphalt, petroleum asphalt and natural asphalt. Among them, coal tar pitch is a by-product of coking, and petroleum pitch is the residue after crude oil distillation. Natural asphalt is stored underground, and some of it forms ore beds or accumulates on the surface of the earth's crust.

In civil engineering, asphalt is a widely used waterproof and anticorrosive material, which is mainly used for waterproofing of roofs, floors and underground structures, and anticorrosion of wood and steel. Asphalt is also a widely used pavement structure cementing material in road engineering. After being matched with mineral materials with different components in proportion, it can be used to build asphalt pavements with different structures and is widely used in expressways.

With the rapid development of highway traffic construction, China's road asphalt production enterprises have also developed rapidly. In particular, heavy traffic asphalt and modified asphalt have achieved a qualitative leap from scratch, from small to large, from less to more, and made great contributions to road construction in China. Among them, the maintenance of pavement by asphalt is usually divided into three types: preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and emergency maintenance.

These three maintenance methods can be selected according to the usage of pavement, and each maintenance method needs to choose different maintenance methods and maintenance equipment. The difference between the three maintenance measures is mainly reflected in the pavement condition and the length of opening time. Of course, there is no clear boundary between the three. Preventive maintenance refers to the maintenance of pavement before it is damaged, restorative maintenance refers to the repair of local damage of pavement or the treatment of some specific diseases, and emergency maintenance is a measure taken in an emergency.
