World Wildlife Conservation Day

"World Wildlife Day" is a festival decided by the United Nations General Assembly on February 20, 20 13 to raise people's awareness of world wildlife.

1March 3, 973 is the date when the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora was adopted. The Convention has played an important role in ensuring that species are not threatened by international trade.

Previously, the 6th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora was held in Bangkok on March 3 -4, 20/kloc-0. At the meeting, a resolution was passed to designate March 3 as World Wildlife Day.

The resolution was supported by Thailand, the host country of the conference, which submitted the outcome of the conference to the United Nations General Assembly.

World Wildlife Day gives us an opportunity to praise the beautiful and diverse wildlife, and also makes us better understand the benefits that nature and environmental protection bring to mankind.

At the same time, the International Day also reminds us that it is urgent to intensify efforts to combat wildlife crimes. Our actions will have a wide range of economic, environmental and social impacts.

Wild animals and plants have intrinsic value and various contributions, including their contributions to sustainable development and human welfare in ecology, heredity, society, economy, science, education, culture, entertainment and aesthetics.

Therefore, the United Nations invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international institutions, as well as civil society, non-governmental organizations and individuals to participate in the celebration of World Wildlife Day.

The secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora will cooperate with relevant organizations of the United Nations system to promote the implementation of World Wildlife Day.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the China government and the public, the wildlife protection in China has basically reversed the situation of the continuous decline of rare and endangered species. More than 70 critically endangered species, such as giant panda, crested ibis, Chinese alligator and cycad, are gradually getting rid of the risk of extinction, showing a good trend of steady growth and continuous optimization of habitats.

However, under the background of population growth and rapid socio-economic development, wild animals and plants and their habitats are still threatened by many factors such as environmental pollution, deforestation and illegal trade, and it is urgent for the government and the public to take further measures to strengthen protection.

Representatives of young volunteers and students from Beijing Forestry University read out proposals during the activity, hoping that the whole society and everyone would start from me and stop eating wild animals and plants indiscriminately, and actively report to the relevant departments if they find illegal behaviors of catching, hunting, picking, digging and operating wild animals and plants.

Be a civilized traveler, do not intimidate wild animals, and do not pollute or destroy wildlife habitats; Actively publicize the popular science knowledge of wildlife protection and promote the harmonious coexistence between people and wildlife; Actively participate in and advocate relatives and friends around us to participate in public welfare actions for wildlife protection and make contributions to wildlife protection.
