The Beijing Olympic Bid Committee delegation was ranked fourth after Osaka, Paris and Toronto in the order of previous draws.

On July 10, 2001, Vice Premier Li Lanqing left Beijing by plane in the morning for Moscow to attend the 112th Plenary Session of the International Olympic Committee held in Moscow on behalf of the Chinese government. Accompanying Li Lanqing were Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Zhang Deguang and Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council Xu Shaoshi.

On February 24, 2001, the International Olympic Committee evaluation team conducted its fourth and final day of inspection in Beijing. In the morning, the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee presented to the evaluation team five themes: technology, medical and health, safety and security, communication and media, and Olympism and culture. In the afternoon, the assessment team divided into two groups and visited Chaoyang Park, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing Telecom Company, CCTV, Olympic Sports Center, China Millennium Monument, etc. On the afternoon of the same day, the International Olympic Committee evaluation team held a press conference in Beijing. Chairman Verbruggen and all members of the evaluation team attended. Chairman Verbruggen and others answered questions from Chinese and foreign reporters.

On June 19, 2000, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee submitted its application report to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.

On June 18, 2000, Wang Wei, Secretary-General of the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee, set off for the International Olympic Committee headquarters to submit answers to 22 questions that must be answered by the bidding city.

On June 13, 2000, Mayor Liu Qi presided over the 23rd municipal government executive meeting and discussed Beijing's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games. Liu Qi emphasized that the city must mobilize all forces to comprehensively promote the Olympic bid.

In early June 2000, the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee promulgated the "Interim Regulations on the Management of the Use of the Name, Emblem and Other Marks of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Bid Committee".

On June 1, 2000, the Olympic Imagination Children's Painting Competition held an award ceremony at the VIP Building in Beijing. Wang Yinan from Beijing Primary School and Zhao Yue from Chengdu Youth Palace won the special prize in the competition held in China. They will go to Australia to observe the Sydney Olympics on behalf of Chinese children.

On May 27, 2000, a countdown sign for the Olympic bid was erected in the Wangfujing Gongmei Building. This was the first countdown sign for the Olympic bid voluntarily set up by the citizens of Beijing.

Municipal Party Committee Secretary Jia Qinglin pointed out that Premier Zhu Rongji’s speech on behalf of the Party Central Committee and the State Council in support of Beijing’s bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games expressed the unanimous voice of the people of Beijing and the whole country and will further stimulate the enthusiasm of the whole society to support the bid. He emphasized the need to advance the bidding work in a down-to-earth manner.
