Is Madong really the hometown of lychees?
Mattong Town is the hometown of lychees in China. Mattong lychee has a long history, many varieties, excellent quality and high yield, and is well-known at home and abroad. As early as the early 1980s, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs designated the purchase of matong lychees as a gift to North Korea's Prime Minister Kim Il Sung. In 1994, it was awarded the title of "The Hometown of Lychee in China" by the "First Hundred Chinese Specialties Hometown Naming Promotion Organizing Committee". In 2001, it was confirmed for the first time by the District Agriculture Department that the town had established a 51,000-acre pollution-free lychee production and management base. In 2004, the town was recognized as a lychee production and export base by the Guangxi Entry-Exit Quarantine Bureau. At present, there are more than 120,000 acres of lychees in the town, with more than ten varieties including Heli, Heiye Li, Clove Li, Dazhao Li, Baitang Li, Nuomi Li, and Guiwei. Among them, Heli is the main planting variety, accounting for 90% of the planting area, about 108,000 acres. These lychees have large and uniform fruits, are delicious when dried, have beautiful appearance and color, and are easy to keep fresh. The town's annual output of lychees is about 38 million kilograms.
