This subway line is Xi subway line 5. The whole line runs east-west, starting from Xixian New Area Innovation Port Station in the west, passing through Qindu District, weiyang district, Lianhu District, beilin district and Yanta District, and reaching Xi 'an East Station in Baqiao District in the east. The whole line is 45.37 kilometers long, and there are 34 stations along the way, including 25 underground stations and 9 elevated stations. Due to the unfinished Xi East Station, Yuedengge, Yanming Lake and Xi East Station were temporarily closed. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2020, and the project will be built in two phases.

The first phase of Xi Metro Line 5 started construction in June 2006, from Xi 'an East Station to Afanggong South Station, passing through five administrative districts, namely weiyang district, Lianhu District, beilin district, Yanta District and Baqiao District, connecting three development zones, namely Xixian New Area, Qujiang New District and Chanba Ecological Zone, and passing through Xijiao Industrial Zone and Xiaoyan.

The second phase of Xi Metro Line 5, from Afanggong South Station to Innovation Port Station, officially started construction on February 20 17. It passes through Siyuan Huannan Road, Tianyuan Road, Gong Yuan Avenue, Keji West Road, Kuner Road and Dazhai Road, with a total length of about 20.0 1 km, with 3 stations/kloc-0, 5 underground stations and 8 elevated stations.
