Historical evolution
In the 15th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (210), Sun Quan took control of Wu and established Fucheng County on the southern border of Nanchang County. It was named after the county was built on the west side of the Fu River. It belongs to Yuzhang County and is subordinate to Yangzhou.
In the first year of Taikang of the Jin Dynasty (280), due to the fact that "the city was not completed and the population was not concentrated", it was moved to Fengshuixi (now Rongtang Ruins) and renamed Fengcheng County. In the first year of Yuankang (291), Fengcheng County belonged to Jiangzhou. The county names changed from time to time, and they were Fucheng, Fengcheng, Guangfeng, Fengcheng, Wugao, Fuzhou and Fengcheng. Legend has it that during the Yongping period of Jin Dynasty, Fengcheng County once had a "Purple Qi Rushing Bull Star". The county magistrate Lei Huan dug out the prison foundation and obtained the male and female swords of the Spring and Autumn Generals and Moye. Therefore, Fengcheng is also known as "Jianyi" and "Jiancheng".
In the second year of Liang Datong (536), the county was in great difficulty. Due to the division of the eastern border of the county, Guangfeng and Xin'an counties were divided into two counties, respectively, under the jurisdiction of Bashan County, Fuzhou General Administration Office. In the early Sui Dynasty, Xin'an was abandoned and moved into Guangfeng County. In the ninth year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (589), the three counties of Yuzhang, Bashan and Yuning were abandoned and relocated to Hongzhou; Fengcheng was merged into Guangfeng County, first under Fuzhou and later under Hongzhou. The administration of Rongtang County was abolished. In the second year of Renshou (602), it was renamed Fengcheng to avoid Yang Guang's taboo. In the twelfth year of Daye (606), Lin Shihong (Hong) fell into Yuzhang and the county was abolished.
In the fifth year of Tang Wude's reign (622), Fengcheng County was restored. The original government (today's old county) was destroyed by war, and in the second year of Yonghui (651), the county government was moved to the east bank of Zhangshui (today's old city). In the second year of Tang Tianyou's reign (905), Liang Wang Zhu Quanzhong changed Fengcheng's name to Wu Gao because his father's name was Cheng. In the first year of Tongguang in the Five Dynasties (923), Wu Gao was renamed Fengcheng.
In the 23rd year of Yuan Dynasty (1286), when the number of households in Fengcheng reached 50,000, Fengcheng was promoted to Fuzhou and attached to Longxing Road. In the fifth year of Hongwu's reign in the Ming Dynasty (1372), Longxing Road was renamed Hongzhou Prefecture and then Nanchang Prefecture; Fuzhou was renamed Fengcheng County and was affiliated with Nanchang Prefecture.
