Reading Check-in: "Confessions of a Drug-Addicted Girl"

I recently read the book "Confessions of a Drug Addict" (author Christiane). I picked up this book out of interest at first, but after reading it I felt heavy. In the preface of the book, the author raises his own question: Is the reason why teenagers in German society are addicted to drugs and refuse to change despite repeated admonitions is a problem of these adolescents themselves or a problem of the entire society?

This is a banned book that was once not allowed to be accessed and mentioned by the public. This confessional work is based on a true story. The protagonist of the story, the German girl Christiane, is the author himself. Her parents divorced, and she started taking drugs at the age of 13. She started prostitution at the age of 14 to earn a fortune for herself. During the drug addiction, she made a number of drug friends - including her little sisters and her boyfriend Dietrich. Husband (the boyfriend later died alone in the public toilet). It’s not that she has never tried to quit drugs. On the contrary, she has tried much more often than some of her “drug friends” around her. Perhaps because of this, she did not die from drugs. It is precisely because of this that today, several years later, we can see the whole story. Christiane was freed from drug addiction many years later. She devoted herself to the cause of youth drug rehabilitation and became a backbone and struggled for many years. By chance, I met Kai Herman, the editor of Der Spiegel at the time. After discussions, the protagonist’s memories of drug addiction were compiled into a story of more than 200,000 words, which is the book we are reading.

Different from the general "stay away from drugs" propaganda, this novel is too intuitive, and the bloody reality is before us. Photos of young drug addicts who died suddenly on the roadside are attached to the book. When I first read this book, I had to admit that "drugs are really scary things!" Looking back on the anti-drug knowledge propaganda that I was exposed to when I was a child, some children may even be more curious about this strange thing, but this book gives people The feeling is different, it makes me feel that drugs are strange, scary and unattractive!

The road to drug addiction recovery for girls is long and arduous. Not every drug addict is lucky enough to come out of the abyss. They either die on the roadside or in the arms of their family members. As an adult, Christiane realized the importance of anti-drug propaganda and used her own personal experience to stop countless confused teenagers and girls in time. Perhaps this was not enough. Going back to the original question, children in adolescence are rebellious and curious, and humans have never been able to escape this stage of development. However, not every social group has encountered such a large-scale tragedy caused by drugs.
