How did Li die?

General Li was killed by agents of the Kuomintang reactionaries.

Li, Han nationality, is from Xiaorong Guantun, Huazi Township, Liaoyang County, Liaoning Province (now Dengta County). One of the main leaders of Beiman Provincial Committee, the founder of Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition Forces, and one of the 100 hero models who made outstanding contributions to the founding of New China. He used to be the head of the Military Commission of Manchuria Provincial Committee, the deputy captain of Hezhu Anti-Japanese Guerrilla, the political commissar of Hadong detachment, the acting political director of the Sixth Army of Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Forces, the political director of the Third Army, the general political director of North Manchuria Anti-Japanese Allied Forces, and the commander-in-chief of the Third Route Army of Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Forces.

1946 at 4: 00 p.m. on March 9, the enemy sent a letter, pretending that there was an important person "please ask Li to discuss something at No.9 Shuidao Street". When the car drove to a place not far from the Sino-Soviet Friendship Association, it suddenly broke down. Li asked the guard to help the driver repair the car. He went to the Sino-Soviet Friendship Association and told his secretary Yu Kai that he went to No.9 Shuidao Street (about 100 meters from here). Then he went to No.9 Shuidao Street alone. As soon as she entered the door, Sun Geling, the female secretary of Yang Chuan, the "mayor" of Harbin of the Kuomintang, took off Li's coat, which contained a pistol, locked it in the closet and led her into a big room like a conference room. Li was tricked into drinking potassium cyanide tea by the enemy and immediately fainted to the ground. A group of lurking executioners jumped out and killed Li when he was unconscious, stabbing him several times all over his body. At dawn, Li exchanged his own blood for the awakening of hundreds of millions of people. It fully exposed the conspiracy of the Kuomintang reactionaries to fake peace and real civil war.
