Southwest Petroleum University was born in Nanchong in 1958. It is the second petroleum undergraduate institution founded by New China. In 2000, Southwest Petroleum University was transferred to a local government and became a higher education institution established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.
