Legendary stories of Shangqiu place names:
In ancient times, people ate raw food. Later, due to natural causes such as thunder, lightning, and wind, the shape of Natural fire cooked tree seeds and wild animals that had no time to escape. People picked it up and found that cooked food tasted much better than raw food.
So I slowly learned to put food on the fire to roast it. At that time, there were no ready-made tools for making fire. When people saw lightning and forest fires, they thought they had found a treasure and tried every means to save fire.
Once, Emperor Ku took his son Uncle Yan out to inspect the people, and came to a place where they saw that the people here were still eating raw food, and most of them were weak and sick. Emperor Ku felt pity for them and asked why they didn't eat cooked food.
The common people replied: "There is no fire." The emperor asked, "Why don't you look for it somewhere else? If you attract fire, don't let it go out!" The people said to him, "I have looked for it several times, but sometimes it was because of insufficient supply of firewood, and sometimes because of flooding, it was all extinguished." ."
Di Ku looked around, and sure enough there were ashes from the fire extinguished by the flooded river. He couldn't help but let out a long sigh and thought to himself: How can I find a way to keep the fire alive? After thinking for a while, he said to Uncle Yan earnestly: "Look, helping the subjects here to attract fire.
And managing the fire well to prevent it from extinguishing is related to the life and death of the subjects here. It's a big matter. You are my most capable son. I want you to handle this matter. How about it?" Uncle Yan was a loyal and obedient man, so he agreed immediately.
From then on, Uncle Yan became the "Huozheng" (the official in charge of fire) here, and this place became the fiefdom given to Uncle Yan by the emperor Ku, and he was titled "Shang". After Uncle Yan was sealed here, he worked all day long on the fire. He was so busy that he didn't even bother to eat, and he couldn't sleep well.
He first led the people to bring fire from a far away place, and found a way to pile it into a mound, put the fire on the mound, and put a canopy on it to protect the rain. Rain cannot extinguish the fire, nor can rivers flood it.
Then he personally led people to search for firewood everywhere. Due to Uncle Yan's wisdom and hard work, the people of "Shang" could not only light fires everywhere, but also keep the fires lasting for a long time.
Everyone was grateful to Uncle Yan and said that he was a god from heaven who came down to earth to bring blessings to the people. After Uncle Yan's death, people remembered his merits and with reverence, buried him with the richest funeral at that time on the mound where the fire was stored during his lifetime.
According to the custom at the time, everyone who mourned him had to add a bag of loess to his grave. As a result, the mounds were piled larger and larger. Because Yan Bo's title was "Shang", this mound was called "Shang Qiu" from then on. Over time, "Shangqiu" became the place name here.
