At present, no university in China has a heterosexual bandu. Shandong University cancelled the seven-year heterosexual study partner system for international students.

Since the implementation of this policy for seven years, the original intention of universities is to help international students better adapt to the living and learning environment in China. However, this practice has attracted some controversy, and critics believe that it may bring unnecessary pressure and trouble to the participating students.

First of all, assigning "heterosexual students" to international students may bring about a certain degree of cultural conflict. We need to realize that different students have different cultural backgrounds and values, and this compulsory pairing method may not be suitable for everyone.

Secondly, this system may bring extra pressure to the participating students. Although the original intention of accompanying students is to help foreign students better adapt to the living and learning environment in China, this way may make some students feel uncomfortable, and may even affect their study and life.

This decision of Shandong University, though a little late, is still welcome. This not only shows that the school attaches importance to students' opinions and feedback, but also reflects the respect of the school for students' rights and interests.

The adaptation and integration of foreign students should not depend entirely on the unilateral arrangement of the school. What is more important is to stimulate students' enthusiasm and initiative and provide diversified support and services, such as setting up cultural exchange activities, providing language learning support and providing specialized psychological counseling.
