Brief introduction of materials and historical background of Yuanmingyuan

I learned that Yuanmingyuan, located in Haidian District, China, is one of the representatives of imperial gardens in Qing Dynasty. Its construction began in the18th century and was presided over by emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. It is an outstanding representative of ancient garden art in China and a bright pearl in the history of world gardens.

However, it was looted and burned in the 1860 campaign of the British and French allied forces. Most buildings were destroyed and cultural relics were robbed, which became a great tragedy in the history of China.
