From late August to mid-October 1934, the Third Red Army Corps was ordered to garrison Shicheng in the northern part of the Central Soviet Area, and fought bravely and tenaciously against the enemy troops who invaded the Central Soviet Area. It was known in history as the "Stone City Blocking War." In order to delay the enemy's invasion of the central area of ??the Central Soviet Area, ensure the safe assembly and strategic transfer of the central agencies and the main Red Army, and gain time, the Third Red Army Corps, in compliance with the orders of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission, established a deep area of ??about fifty miles north of Shicheng. Three lines of defense were set up and the Stone City Blockade was launched. The entire battle was very tragic. The Red Army soldiers fought bravely and the Kuomintang troops suffered heavy casualties, which dealt a heavy blow to the enemy's arrogance. The blocking battle ended successfully on October 7. The Third Red Army Corps made a significant contribution to the victory in the Shicheng Blockade. After the Shicheng Blockade ended on October 7, 1934, the Third Red Army Corps was ordered to evacuate to the Guanxia and Pingshan areas to regroup and recuperate. Its headquarters was located in the Chen's residence in Mirror Pai, Pingshan.

Many Red Army slogans are preserved in the old site. Its preservation is of great historical value for studying the Shicheng Blockade, the Third Red Army and the Soviet Revolution.
