Disability standards
Special Olympics is the largest organization in the world that provides perennial sports training and competitions for people with mental retardation (over 8 years old). At present, more than 2.25 million athletes in more than 15 countries have participated in 3 Olympic sports training and competitions held in local, state, national and worldwide. Through mass sports, the Special Olympics will benefit the health of the participants for a long time and gain self-respect and social recognition.
The International Paralympic Committee is an international organization that gathers sports elites of disabled people (physical disabilities). The organization arranges, supervises and coordinates the most important world and regional paralympic games and other different paralympic games (including 25 sports) in which sports elites participate. It is a non-profit organization, consisting of 16 national paralympic committees and 5 international individual sports associations for the disabled.
ability standard and sports competition
The Special Olympics allows athletes of all ability levels within the range of mental retardation to participate. In order to ensure the principle of fair competition, Special Olympics athletes will be divided into different "groups" according to their age and ability, and each group can provide all athletes with fair competition opportunities. This principle will bring every athlete a meaningful and pleasant experience, and at the same time, it can stimulate their potential and achieve the best.
Athletes participating in the Paralympic Games come from six different disability groups, and only those with the strongest ability can participate in the competition. As a formal sports competition, those athletes who fail to meet the competition standards cannot participate in the competition, and some athletes who meet the standards may be eliminated in the preliminary round. This sports concept is to select the "best" athletes or sports teams.
