The "Wenmingmen" gatehouse, which was built in the 29th year of Qing Qianlong (1764), is a double-eaved, mountain-leaning project with a mixed beam frame, and Nanxi people used to call it the South Gate gatehouse. During the 11th year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty (1807).

The word "Wenmingmen" inscribed by Shao, a magistrate of a county, is engraved on the threshold. The whole building has a high wing angle, beautiful curve, elegance and unconventional style, belonging to the folk style of southern Sichuan. In front of the building, there are six 62-level stone piers connected with it, which makes the tower more magnificent. It has been absorbed by many movies and TV series, such as Heroes of the Grass, Heroes of Ancient Times, Nine Hairs, Young Liu Bocheng and so on.

Nanxi Wenmingmen Wall, located in South Street of nanxi district, is the most intact wall along the Yangtze River so far, and is known as the "first gate of the Yangtze River". The city wall was originally made of earth, but it was changed into a stone wall in Shunnian tomorrow, and it was destroyed in the third year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty (1674). During the renovation in the 29th year of Qianlong (1764), two gates were added.

Among the original nine city gates, there are "Wenmingmen" (commonly known as South Gate), "Guangfumen" and "Wangyingmen" (commonly known as East Gate) towers and some city walls along the river, with a total length of 1482 meters, a height of about 6 meters and an average thickness of 7.5 meters.
