Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. Why is it still growing?

Mount Qomolangma, also known as "the top of the world", is located in the Himalayas on the southern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Its geographical environment is very unique. The lowest temperature at the peak is around -30℃ all the year round, and the climate is very bad.

June to September is the rainy season of Mount Everest every year. High altitude areas are prone to rain, snow or snowstorms, and the climate is very changeable. June to April is the monsoon season in the Himalayas, and the wind speed increases with the elevation. Mount Everest is 8000 meters above sea level, and the monsoon is very strong.

Therefore, May is the most suitable time to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Eight members of our Everest Elevation Survey Climbing Team also successfully reached the summit at 1 1 on May 27th, 2020, and fought at the summit for two and a half hours, successfully completing the task of Everest survey.

8848.86 meters is the latest height to pay tribute to Mount Everest, and it is also a tribute to the spirit of several generations of climbers in China who have climbed the peak bravely, constantly explored and sought quality and truth!

With the efforts of several generations of China mountaineering survey teams, the former State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping and the General Staff Bureau of Surveying and Mapping jointly established the Everest Survey Team, and with the assistance of the China Mountaineering Team, the Mount Everest was surveyed again. Nine members of the mountaineering team launched a final sprint to Mount Everest and successfully climbed to the top from the north slope of Mount Everest. Seeing the 3-meter-high red beacon tower standing on the top of the earth and the five-star red flag flying high on the summit, we are finally qualified to announce to the world that the altitude of Mount Everest is 8848. 13 meters.

This height was quickly recognized by the whole world, and it was maintained until we changed it to 8844.43 meters (the altitude of the rock surface), and then the latest height was 8848.86 meters.

Why are we so obsessed with measuring that Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world? As a matter of fact, other countries in the world were also measuring and publishing the height of Mount Qomolangma before China carried out accurate elevation measurement of Mount Qomolangma, but China is one of the sovereign countries of Mount Qomolangma, so we have the responsibility, obligation and ability to measure the data of the world's highest peak and publish it to the outside world.

Secondly, the accurate measurement of Mount Everest's elevation not only ends the chaotic situation of inconsistent Everest's elevation in the world, but also contributes to earth science research, bringing great social benefits and scientific significance to China. Moreover, measuring Mount Everest has become our courage in China.
