His life information can be found in Sanshui written by Huangfumei in the late Tang Dynasty, North Dream written by Sun Guangxian in the early Song Dynasty, and the new Biography of People in the Tang Dynasty in the Yuan Dynasty. In addition, there are some related short sentences outside the chapter in Taiping Guangji, Southern New Books, Zhizhai Solving Problems and Quantang Poetry. There are few records of Yu in official history and local chronicles, so the research on him is mostly concentrated on his poems. His works include a volume of Yu Ji, and there are as many as 50 existing poems, among which the whole Tang poetry is not included.

In the 20th century, Yu attracted the attention of many scholars and made a special study on it. There are some research papers, such as Yu Ci, Tan Zhengbi's Literary Life of Women in China, and Lu Chuping's Yu Ci with a Crown. In the 1980s and 1990s, there were On Yu and His Poems in Late Tang Dynasty, Poems on Yu, Poems on Yu, Xuan Ji's Female Consciousness and Love by Ai, Yu Xuanji by Rizo, Yu Xuanji by Su Zhecong and Yu Xuanji by Qu Wenjun. Regarding the evaluation of Yu, Zhong Xing, a writer in the Ming Dynasty, said in Poems of Famous Ladies that "quatrains are so thoughtful that they are not loved by talents, nor can they be painted, that is, they cannot be painted and their sounds cannot be bright ... Modern writer Shi Zhecun said: There are more than 49 poems in a volume, and now there is a print of the Southern Song Dynasty ...
