Are you suitable to study architectural design?
The college entrance examination is coming soon, and students who want to study architectural design will ask me if I am suitable to major in architectural design? It is said that studying architectural design requires talent. I can’t draw, so I don’t know if I have talent? I just think that designing buildings is fun! Why is landscape architecture considered an engineering major? Many art schools also offer this major. Are art students suitable for engineering majors like this? Although I am a science student, I have an average science mind. Can I learn this major well?
Xing Ke: Top scorer in science in the provincial college entrance examination, professional architect.
When it comes to how to judge whether you are suitable for architectural design, I would like to first tell my own story.
My college entrance examination scores were good, and I could choose any major from any university across the country. I chose Tsinghua University to major in architecture. When I applied to volunteer, I was still a kid who basically didn't understand anything, and I hadn't considered whether I was suitable or not. The class teacher said that studying architecture is very profitable, so I decided happily.
The Department of Architecture at Tsinghua University attaches great importance to the cultivation of design concepts. For each course design, the teacher will spend one or two weeks or more discussing the concepts with us and deepening the design later. The stages always revolve around the initial concept to generate the work. At the time, I didn’t really understand why we did this. Now, after working for several years and experiencing many practical plans and reports, in retrospect, I realize the importance of “concept”.
But here comes the problem. I am a person with strong rational thinking. I can get high scores in math competitions and physics competitions. But the concept is actually very emotional. Give me a problem and let me figure it out and I can do a great job. But it is difficult for me to create a problem myself. This is also a very obvious weakness of mine. So every time I reported it to the teacher, the teacher would say that you have no idea for this design.
This problem has been with me for five years in college. I always thought I wasn't cut out for architecture because I couldn't get high marks in design courses. Later, after graduation, I went to work in a design institute. At the beginning, I also made plans, but my work was only so-so. The things I came up with were indeed not very outstanding. Slowly, my self-confidence began to be frustrated, and I began to doubt myself, whether I really chose the wrong major and should not have studied architecture in the first place.
Until I started to come into contact with construction drawing design. The division of labor in large design institutes is relatively detailed, with some specializing in schematic design and others specializing in construction drawing design. When I started to come into contact with construction drawings, I discovered that construction drawings and plans have completely different requirements for architects. The task of the construction drawing architect is to accurately understand the ideas of the scheme architect and implement the design ideas in the scheme into real architectural practices. At the same time, the plan will be designed in depth to further improve some areas that were not taken into consideration during the planning stage. According to the requirements of various building regulations and the guidance of engineering experience, the in-depth design of the entire building will be completed until the depth can be constructed.
Construction drawing design requires architects to have strong logical and rational thinking, have a very solid knowledge reserve in all aspects of the architecture profession, and should also have a certain in-depth understanding of various related professional knowledge of architecture. For me, these are not particularly difficult requirements. I self-study the textbooks for the first-level registered architect examination knowledge questions, and have a very in-depth understanding and mastery of the knowledge of architecture and related majors, just like studying physics in high school. After possessing this knowledge, and through the accumulation of experience in the construction drawing design process, I quickly became an architect who is very good at construction drawings in the courtyard. In just two or three years, I became a professional leader and to a large extent assumed the overall responsibility of the project. In the process, I also gained a long-lost sense of accomplishment at work.
Architectural design itself also has a division of labor, just like the scheme design and construction drawing design I mentioned above. These two divisions of labor also have different requirements for personal qualities. With the development of computer technology, the requirements for painting in the architectural design industry have become lower and lower.
I think that in any industry, you need talent to become a master, but as an ordinary person, I think as long as you have normal IQ and EQ, you can become a qualified architect in the construction industry. I can't advise you whether to choose this major, after all, I don't know you well. I just want to say that if you finally choose architecture, please love this industry, it is worth fighting for!
Chen Popo:
I am a female student with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. Our school does not require an art test for admission. Then my art classes were a mess because I hated the Beijing uncles in class! We started using computers to do design as soon as we entered school. Although I still like to draw by hand in the early stages of design, and I can master architectural hand-drawing without any problem!
Then! I was good at reading physics and chemistry in high school. My kid, I gave it up completely when I entered college! Because my main course was a design course and I was still very playful. I didn’t have time to study mathematics or physics properly! Then the people around me were also immersed in the design course, and they slept through the math and physics courses. Yes! The school couldn’t stand it anymore, so it didn’t dare to put the architecture department together with other departments for mechanics classes, and sent teachers to teach us more elementary classes? So you don’t have to worry!
Architecture What do you mean by design? Although it depends on talent, it does not mean that all those who are doing this profession are talented! There are many options for architectural technology, historical preservation, and ecological architecture! These all require professionalism. The accumulation of knowledge and experience can be sustained as long as you study hard.
Wei Zhaoming: Architectural Studying
In the past few days, my face was injured and I was hospitalized. My classmates put down their design plans one after another and came to visit me after completing their architectural inspections in various places. It was heart-warming and exciting. I have a computer after the dialysis injection, and I want to tell some stories around me, and record the lives of the architecture students around me intermittently.
1. Some things seem to be destined: talented people and model workers
The school I went to was neither good nor bad, and the architecture major was not particularly famous for passing the evaluation. After staying in such an environment for more than a year, I saw two people who can be said to be in sharp contrast, namely the talented person and the model worker mentioned above.
As the name suggests, these two types of people have always been The contrast can be seen at the beginning of school, and as time goes by, the gap grows wider.
The two talented people have good family conditions, and their clothes are very fashionable. A person's clothing combination can reflect his general aesthetics and advanced thoughts, such as being free and easy, pursuing individuality and self, and not caring about the opinions of the outside world. Most of the model workers come from rural areas. They dress simply and have very conservative ideas. They feel very close to my parents. He is extremely gentle in his behavior, and he behaves like an adult.
These two types of people seem a bit interesting once they go to professional classes:
Talented people almost never attend class. They all have their own interests and hobbies: playing games, socializing, traveling? Majors are not destined to be like ordinary engineering students, who have to work hard every day to study high-level mathematics. There are many water courses, and it doesn't matter to them whether they come to professional courses or not. But once they get started, their talent begins to show: a good plan that can be uploaded with just a quick drawing, no matter in terms of materials, interior layout, or overall structure, is of the highest quality! They can upload a large picture in minutes; others take a long time to draw a flat plan. A vertical autopsy was only a matter of one or two hours for the two of them to focus on.
In short, our two or three weeks or even one or two months of hard work, in the hands of talented people, is only a matter of two or three days at most: the last one or two classes in the design process, sitting down leisurely, Take out the drawing paper, concentrate on drawing, or draw a model, show it to the teacher in the next class, laugh and ask for common points, modify the details, and you are done. The same is true for sketching, speed is really nothing to say. And the drawn works are not bad, and the structure is clear?
In our school, this person can be regarded as a talented person in architectural design. However, they are the bottom one or two in our class.
For them, everything is easy to learn, and it doesn't matter. They don't care about water courses, professional courses, or homework. Normally, taking roll call and so on are all flaws.
Let’s go back and talk about the model workers:
Model workers are also outstanding enough in design classes. It is not easy to come from the countryside to the city. You have to work hard from the beginning of college. In the design class, the teacher asked for two plans, and they gave four or five plans; other students went to bed at 12 o'clock, and they were still working on CAD at 3 or 4 o'clock; in professional classes, they circled around the teacher, paying attention to every problem and detail. Let it go; when drawing a big picture, do they look more, think more, and photoshop more? Their emotions are astonishing and awe-inspiring, all of which are hard to explain.
Have never learned sketching, so they draw more in school. They don’t leave the house during the holidays, just to sit and think for a while? However, even though they work so hard, their grades still only belong to the middle area of ??the class. . After studying this year, there are many model workers who have lost ten or twenty kilograms.
Life is not an inspirational drama. Some talents are there. If you have them, you have them. If you don’t have them, you don’t have them. It just depends on whether you are willing to use them when you have them; whether you are willing to work hard when you don’t have them.
The characters I am talking about are a bit extreme. Those with high professional scores are those who have some talent but work hard enough, and most of them are girls. This is just a story, the benevolent sees the benevolent and the wise see the wisdom.
2. Which subject is architecture?
I have had a lot of doubts about this question. I once asked whether architecture is more engineering or art?
I think: design belongs to the art category, but architectural landscape cannot be randomly placed in the art category. It is a work of art, but it also needs the support of various engineering fields, rather than being unreasonable! It has not started yet, maybe it will be built Environmental and structural engineers will beat you to death with sticks! And in China's environment, it is a good decision to count it as an engineering major! I don't mean architectural design as a black art! What do science students need to learn architecture, Yuan Teacher Mu's "First Lesson in Architecture" was the first related professional book I read before going to college. You can buy or borrow a copy and read it without going into details. Recently I was hospitalized and had nothing to do, so I started to focus on the theory of architectural space combination.
Zhao Xiaoyu: Undergraduate student majoring in landscape architecture.
Currently in his freshman year, he is studying landscape architecture. She is a girl. She studied science in high school, and her science subjects are very average. . . At first I wanted to study architecture, and wanted to go to Southeast University, but my scores were definitely not enough. . . I think you should read some preliminary books on architecture first. It's purely theoretical. If you feel interested in studying it after reading it, then you are interested. As for whether it's suitable or not, I think as long as you're interested in doing it, you'd still do well. If you think architecture is difficult, you can also study landscape architecture (landscape)!
Tan Ben: Master's degree student in Western architectural history and Chinese modern architectural history?
Talent is hard to say, I just I feel that if you can find happiness in the process of designing, then you are suitable for this industry. If you find it too boring to design and move the walls around without feeling any kindness, then I suggest you change careers as soon as possible.
Generally speaking, architecture is rational and requires a good sense of beauty. But beauty does not necessarily come from learning to draw. You can read comics, look at photos, watch movies, and listen to music, all of which can cultivate your sense of beauty. Because the source of beauty is the same. You will find the existence of beauty from all kinds of rational, regular, rhythmic, balanced, balanced and symmetrical things, and this only requires your love for life and the world, and instinctively feeling the beauty and exquisiteness of the world. You will feel the same beauty from a leaf as from the architectural design.
In fact, I personally think that architectural design is something that only highly intelligent people can do. Learning architectural design can help develop intelligence!! I feel that if you can do well in architectural design, there is basically nothing you can’t do.
Those who are ready to complain about cutting-edge science and technology, please pay attention. I mean that if you can learn architectural design well, it means that this person has strict logic, unlimited pursuit of perfection, as well as strong memory, spatial imagination, and certain determination. His artistic accomplishment, hard-working quality, and mental strength to work overtime and stay up late for a quick meal. . . Such people can't learn anything well!
So in general, it is good to study architecture as an undergraduate. Don't think about whether you are talented or not, try to understand and experience it. If in the end You still find it boring, so congratulations, you don’t have to sit in front of the computer for 10 hours a day, be exposed to radiation and be abused by 2B Party A. You can use the IQ increased in the process of studying architectural design to easily become a civil servant, and then use your free time to do some wild things. , make a profit, gain both time and money, have a full life and love, and a happy ending, why not~~
Loewe:
1 What I got after graduating in architectural design is An architecture degree is actually an engineering major and requires learning about building structures and materials, which is difficult for art students to learn.
2 For architectural designers, it’s great if you can draw. If you can’t, there’s no problem, as long as you have a sense of space.
3 Landscape design and architectural design are two different things. Our School of Architecture originally had three majors: Architecture Department, Planning Department and Environmental Art. What you learn is very different. The Department of Architecture all has science students, the Department of Planning has both science and liberal arts students, and the Environmental Arts Department has mostly liberal arts and art students.
4 Architectural design is not fun at all.
