Zhao Shixiu is the eighth grandson of Song Taizu and the highest achiever of Yongjia Four Spirits in Southern Song Dynasty. At the same time, he is the best poet in the imperial clan of the Song Dynasty, and there is no one.

Zhao Shixiu's masterpiece was included in Selected Poems of Qian Zhongshu in Song Dynasty, which was well received by famous experts and scholars such as Qian Zhongshu and Chen. It is generally believed that his poems describe the boring state of "waiting for people" to the extreme.

However, some scholars believe that Zhao Shixiu was actually quite happy after being stood up. Why do you say that? Now, let's enjoy the song "The Guest" and see how happy this down-and-out grandson is after being stood up.

First, the Southern Song Dynasty "Ke Zhao Shixiu" original appreciation.

Mei Huang Shi, every family was flooded by rain, and the pond was covered with green grass and frogs.

According to the poem, the incident happened after nightfall, when it was raining in Huang Meiyu and frogs were chirping in a nearby pond. If there were guests in the room, you wouldn't hear the frogs.

Stay indoors after dark, the grass by the pond can't be seen. So the scenery outside the house is all made up by the poet, because he is too "idle".

Judging from the second half of the poem, he should invite friends to play chess to kill time. However, the chessboard had already been set, but the players didn't come until midnight.

He feels bored, but he doesn't want to do anything else, so he probably can't do anything else. Because there were no lights, televisions and computers at night in ancient times, we could not engage in other recreational activities.

Besides, it seems that he is not in the mood to burn the midnight oil to study. So I just picked up the chess piece and knocked it on the chessboard, and then I knocked the snuff off the candlestick.

The greatest advantage of this poem is to write "scenery" in the dark, and to write "scenery" vividly through imagination and sound description. The sound of the first sentence of this poem is drizzle. The voice in the second sentence is the croak of frogs in the pond.

There is no sound in the third sentence, which actually creates a blank before and after writing. Because at this time, the scene changed from noisy outdoor to quiet indoor.

So the "silent description" in the third sentence is like a "rest" in the score, which makes the sound stop completely. The last sentence becomes clearer when there is a sound of beating the chess pieces.

The poetic eye of the whole poem should fall on the word "leisure", which shows the mature and rational aesthetic of the poets in Song Dynasty. Ordinary people must be impetuous when they entertain guests for a long time. Where is the leisure to listen to the rain and frogs?

People who are less patient may rush outside with an umbrella. If the guests don't come to see me, I'll see them myself. Why do you have to stay alone until midnight and knock on the board?

However, Zhao Shixiu is not an ordinary person, he is a great poet with rich imagination. Although he was stood up, he still had some leisure. While listening to the wind, rain and frogs outside, I thought about the current season and the grass growing by the pond.

Suddenly, his thoughts drifted into the room again, and he began to think: It's midnight, why hasn't this guy come yet? At this time, everything was silent, as if there was no sound.

With a bang, he knocked a piece in his hand on the chessboard. This is a lot of noise, like a close-up of a movie. That sound is not only loud, but also strong, even shaking snuff.

Secondly, Zhao Shixiu Zhao Shixiu, a "miserable poet", is a descendant of the royal family, but he lives a very poor life. Zhao Shixiu was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province in the sixth year of Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1 170). There are few records about him in historical materials. Songshi Genealogy records that he is the grandson of Mao VIII and the son of Bo Luan.

At the age of twenty, I was admitted to Jinshi, but I was depressed and frustrated all my life. I've only worked as a junior official in various counties and cities, such as principal books and promotion. Before and after the seventh year of Jiading (A.D. 12 14), I worked in a forwarding company on business, and the specific position was not available for examination.

Zhao Shixiu once said to himself, "After three years in office, there is nothing to do." After three years as an official, what I actually do is a nominal idle position. In short, it cannot be reused by the court. It makes no difference to him that he is not an official.

The imperial court has its own set of management methods for ancient royal children. In the Tang Dynasty, in order to prevent the small clique of the royal family from seizing power by standing aside, they concentrated their children in one place. The lives of princes and princesses must be controlled by eunuchs, which is like going to jail.

There are some princesses whose hair is white and they haven't had a chance to get married, and they have a miserable life. Moreover, this system caused the eunuchs in the late Tang Dynasty to sit up and bully the royal descendants from time to time.

At the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty, the management style of clan children was imitated by the Tang Dynasty. In order to facilitate management, they were still allowed to live together. But after the south, it is obvious that the management is not so strict.

Therefore, as a descendant of collateral, Zhao Shixiu can also take part in the imperial examination and walk freely outside, which is already very good. However, as a distant relative of the imperial clan, Zhao Shixiu could not be reused by the imperial court.

Zhao Shixiu himself must also understand this truth, so he prefers to imitate the styles of Tang poets such as Jia Dao and Yao He in his spare time. He has collected more than 200 poems by Jia and Yao and compiled them into Er Miao Ji.

Later, he formed his own poetic style, which was also appraised as "into the badlands Style". Accustomed to loneliness, you can experience leisure. The word "leisure" is unique in Zhao Shixiu's The Guest.

Nevertheless, Zhao openly played the banner of "learning from the late Tang Dynasty", which still influenced a large number of poets at that time and became a generation of poetic leaders.

Conclusion "Inviting a guest" is not inviting a guest to dinner, but inviting him to play chess. Obviously, both of them are "boring" idlers. Since there is nothing to be busy about, what does it matter if the guests don't come for a while, or stand up and don't come for a night?

The advantage of leisure is that if it is not too leisure, the poet may not be in the mood to listen to Huang Meiyu outside the window and frogs in the pond. Playing chess is killing time, and so is waiting for people. Thinking about the excitement outside, it's not bad to have fun alone and blend in with the scenery.

The aesthetics of poets in Song Dynasty is quite different from that in Tang Dynasty, and they tend to be more rational and indifferent. Jia Dao was an ill-fated poet at that time, and Zhao Shixiu and Jia Dao were in similar situations. So he inherited his own poetic style, but opened up his own realm, which was more calm and natural, with a long aftertaste.
