Get famous in 2013 TOEFL test: See how "lazy people" get high TOEFL scores

I don’t dare to say that this article has any guiding significance. I just want to bring some hope of victory, spiritual encouragement, and some exam preparation skills to the majority of T friends. As the title says, I have always been a slacker. I have been criticized by my teachers and parents since I was a child, but I always look like an old fool, and my grades are neither good nor bad, dangling in the middle. I went to Chengdu to play in the middle of two months after resigning and preparing for the exam. I went out every Wednesday and Saturday. . . Therefore, as long as you use the right method, know yourself and your enemy, plus luck and JJ's blessing, there will be spring for even the lazy!

Before entering the topic, please check your seat according to the following conditions. Of course, this does not represent my own background, nor does it mean how great these conditions are. Just getting 2 or more marks may mean a good foundation in English, which is exactly what ETS has repeatedly emphasized in OG, and it is also the most useful English ability to be developed over a long period of time when studying abroad. So believe in yourself, you already have the qualities to get high scores. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t succeed in the children’s shoes. All roads lead to Rome, but the following may not be suitable for you. I suggest you take a look, there must be more and better methods.

1. Children’s shoes from the English college in college

2. Eight-level college students

3. Get high scores in CET-6

4. Self-study Your spoken English is good, or you used to be good, and you are very familiar with foreign teachers or foreign friends

5. For foreign company workers, English is one of the working languages, and at least internal company emails are in English. . .

6. Those who have short-term study/living/working experience abroad

7. Fans of American dramas, British dramas or English movies can watch the movies without subtitles

8. Middle-level certificate holders

etc.... In short, my English used to be good, but now I am a little afraid of the TOEFL mountain. This post is for you.

Children who have won the above items must have a good foundation in English, and at least one of the four items R, L, S, and W is good at it. But faced with an unfamiliar exam format, coupled with the fact that my English has deteriorated after not using it for several years, or I am too busy at work, and I am old and weak, I feel that heroes are no longer as brave as they used to be~~~ I took the T test first and stayed at home for two months. , took many detours. Only later did I realize that using brute force to conquer the sea has little effect. Awakening memory is the key! Let’s talk about it~

1. Know yourself

Know yourself and the enemy, and you will never be in danger in a hundred battles. This sentence is definitely the essence of Sun Tzu's Art of War. If you don't even understand yourself and the enemy, you will naturally get twice the result with half the effort and lose at the starting line. Before understanding the TOEFL, first understand your current English level, correctly estimate the difficulties and arrange review. It is recommended to read through the OG first and do the questions in each section. Don't be too strict about time. Try to get them right first, because speed can be practiced, but the accuracy rate represents your ability. After completing the correct answers and comparing the speaking and writing with the scoring standards, you will know how much you weigh. You don’t have to do it continuously like a mock test, you can do it separately. TOEFL seems to have four sections, but it actually tests two aspects, output and input. Reading and listening are input, and speaking and writing are output. Based on the relative strength of input and output, I think there are roughly two different preparation strategies:

a. Input-type players are weak in oral and writing.

It is a product of the oppression of exam-oriented education, and I am also like this. Suggested review order: reading-writing-listening-speaking.

Reading is my strong point. First, I need to get a feel for English and practice my concentration. After all, I haven’t studied for a long time, so I finished half of it while working. By the way, I am accumulating vocabulary, becoming familiar with sentence patterns, etc., and using my spare time to memorize words. I feel like the vague memories from the past are rolling back, as if I have returned to the good old days. . . It is recommended not to do it one article at a time. It is best to start with 6 articles from the first practice, and at least 3 articles. Because attention span is very important, mind wandering is a taboo in reading, especially detail questions and inference questions. If you understand the article, you will make many mistakes on the careful questions, mostly because you are distracted. Concentration training takes a long time. Don't be greedy for more every day. After finishing the 6 articles and summarizing your mistakes, go to sleep.

Those miraculous methods seem to be effective, but aside from the training that truly improves abilities, even if you succeed in the exam, it is just luck. You can only say that you come across articles that match your skills. Reading articles do not follow a fixed format, and the test-oriented education method does not always work for ets.

Next, writing will be a big shock at the beginning. I can’t write anything decent in an hour. With a foundation of reading and daily accumulation, you will gradually become more and more comfortable in writing. Don't worry about overtime and feeling bad about yourself. You must believe in yourself. I used to be able to sit still for an hour, but by the last half hour I had written more than 300 words. There is always a 5-minute overtime during practice, and there are still 3 minutes of revision for the exam, because the state of the exam room is different from usual, so don’t worry too much about the speed. I have written more than 20 original OG articles. One article every day is good for physical and mental health. If it is too annoying, it will breed disgust. Keep writing and writing will only improve your proficiency. Please ask the experts around you to correct and discuss it. If you have time, read it out and think about it. By repeating this process, you don’t know writing, and writing knows you. When you can't write anything in the early stage, making an outline is also a good way. It can greatly shorten the reaction time and free up more time to code words. Just list a few of each category to open up the neural pathways in the brain. If you don't have ideas, look at various sample essays and learn from them. Derive your own opinions. The article format might as well use the traditional total score of 5 paragraphs and 3 reasons. If you are short on time, you can write the two reasons in more depth. First/second/third is actually not shameful at all. Don't try to use the eclectic colloquial style of the OG sample (big N, please ws), that's the level of a native speaker. After reading OG’s honesty essay, I was confused for a while. Isn't this the legendary saying that there is always a way to win without any moves!! You will never be able to practice it in a lifetime, and you will not be able to live with such a sample. . . But if you think about it carefully, this is a smoke bomb for ETS. It is difficult for second language to reach such a level. So keep a calm mind and study OG's comments, but don't be blinded by all kinds of fancy forms. Taking the old path has the least risk, so remember it. Writing is also a slow and detailed work, and it is difficult to break into it. Once you get a feel for writing, you can start practicing listening and writing at the same time.

The third item of listening. Listening and speaking are actually based on each other. If you listen too much, you will subconsciously repeat what you have heard when you speak. And if you talk too much, you will naturally form psychological expectations when listening, and you will naturally be able to guess what is coming next. As an input player, listening is easier than speaking, so you might as well listen first. Listening, like reading, is also a test of concentration, because there are always additional tests (819 is an additional test for listening...) Although the additional test does not count, lack of concentration can easily consume energy, which is not conducive to acceptance. Come down to the spoken word play. When practicing, it is also recommended to practice 6 articles together, or at least 3 articles at a time, to adapt to the length of the exam. Also, don’t be too meticulous when taking notes. Listening is always more important than remembering. Especially for topics, the content is simple and not very logical, but there are many details, and it is mixed with a lot of tone and the topic jumps quickly. The consequences of missing the details will be serious. When taking notes is too late behind listening, it is better to stop writing and listen carefully, and then take notes again when you are talking nonsense. I also tried to only listen and not take notes to do the questions, and the error rate was not much higher. Notes are sometimes really psychological. . . One or two sets a day is enough. If you practice too much, you will be in bad shape and you will easily make mistakes. If you make too many mistakes, your confidence will be frustrated. It is a vicious cycle.

Last spoken word. Spoken language is my biggest headache, and it is also the part that everyone is generally confused about. I don’t know where to start. In fact, speaking can be prepared in advance. First, download the original classified questions from the Internet and make an outline. You will find that many questions overlap with each other and the central topic is very prominent. I summarize that the entire TOEFL test is based on more than ten or twenty topics, all of which are closely related to college life. Sometimes you will find that listening content becomes a question in speaking, or reading examples can be used in writing, but you are too lazy to do it. Organized into a text - - So it is very effective to practice the original questions and familiarize yourself with the central topic to the greatest extent. In addition, several good reasons are also important. Similarly, cliche is not shameful. There are thousands of TOEFL test takers around the world. You have a personality, and their personalities are still the same as yours. . . We can imagine that the examiner does not expect any novel answers. It is enough to explain the reasons clearly, have enough reasoning and examples, and add a little personal experience or experience.

For questions 3-6, make good use of the preparation time to summarize the content, organize the logical structure, and omit irrelevant details. Don't be too detailed when taking notes. Just write down the definition and sub-points. Pronunciation and intonation are really not something that can be accomplished in a day. Don’t you see that there are many old overseas Chinese, but their local accents are still the same? The accents of the classmates who have gone abroad are not very American. So don’t spend a lot of time on gorgeous pronunciation, but focus on fluency and the ability to think while speaking. If you reach the state of casually talking for 45 seconds, you will succeed. I highly recommend Yiou Spoken Language). Speaking is the opposite of reading and listening. On the contrary, it takes a short period of time to get into the state, and it will degrade as soon as you put it down, so practice it at the end, and make sure it is blablabla for two or three hours a day, so that you can regain your sense of language and smooth your tongue.

Finally, take the TPO mock test for two weeks. One set per day.

b. For output-oriented players, their shortcomings are reading and listening.

There are probably not many players like this in China. The biggest problem should be concentration and reaction speed. Based on the input preparation order, I feel that the order of speaking-listening-writing-reading is more appropriate. From short to long sections, concentration is gradually enhanced. Through oral exercises, you can exercise your thinking speed, while also practicing reading and listening, from comprehensive ability to sub-item breakthroughs and then to the overall mock test. Please refer to the above for specific operations~ I am not this type myself, so I won’t go into details. . .

2. Know each other

Having said so much, the second big point is, eh. . I would like to say that the official product shall prevail at all times. There are so many TOEFL materials on the market that it can be confusing. But you must buy OG and read it thoroughly. This is the most correct way of thinking. During the reading process, you can unknowingly accumulate a lot of ets idiomatic vocabulary. For other test preparation materials, I used McGraw Hill’s Sprint Chapter, which is especially useful for speaking and listening. Judging from the ambiguous relationship between McGraw Hill and ets, good friends, this set of materials is the closest to the real questions, and this was confirmed when I did TPO later. The advantage of it is that it is very similar to the real test questions. The question ideas are the same and difficult and based on the same central topic, but it is not a real test question. It avoids repeated practice when doing TPO later, and the amount of practice is not too much or too little, and it is not painful to practice. improve. In addition, various writing sample collections and oral question banks with answers on the Internet are also good materials, which can help open up ideas in the early stage. However, remember not to copy from memory. If you are found out, you will lose points and your level will not improve. In terms of writing, I read Shen Xiaoyi's "Ten Days Breakthrough to New TOEFL Essays" which was very inspiring. To memorize words, I used Ma Jun’s Word Tree book. Use TPO for the mock exam. Other materials, including the common delta, barron, and longman, are just opinions and do not need to be taken too seriously. It's such a thick book of questions and it has to be written by hand. A lazy person wouldn't be able to do it anyway, hehe. . .

3. Go to the examination room

Finally, I would like to talk about JJ and improvisation. You must read oral JJ, and you can’t just read one kind. Pony, bamboo, and pink can all be read cross-wise. Special preparations must be made for the overlapping parts. Don’t take it lightly. If the question is in Chinese or if it is not written clearly, you can go online to find the original question. Listening, reading, comprehensive writing, just browse appropriately to leave an impression. Memorizing too much will confuse the audience. Write an outline and look for examples when writing independently. I didn’t drink Red Bull or eat chocolate on the day I went to the exam room. As I get older, I can’t stand these hot things, so I just bring some snacks to satisfy my hunger. During the exam, don’t press next like crazy. Stop and listen to the instructions. Isn’t this a ready-made listening and reading material? You can also move your tongue while reading along. Don't repeat "describe the city you live in" during the audition. Anyway, you'll have to practice it later, so don't miss the opportunity to practice. In short, it is to use all conditions to mobilize the state. It is not a problem to have insomnia the night before and a hoarse voice. It is not a big deal to not sleep for a day. Don’t worry, being in state is the king!
