Why do many old people like to pick up garbage?

Seeing such a topic always makes me feel a little sad. I don't mean to look down on old scavengers. On the contrary, it is a respectable behavior for them to exchange their labor for a certain amount of money, and their labor is glorious.

Because of my work, I have traveled all over the country and stopped in cities of all sizes in the motherland. However, the phenomenon of scavengers is widespread, and the difference lies only in the number. I once discussed this topic with my friends. Finally, the two of us decided that the beverage bottles we would drink in the future would not be thrown directly into the dustbin, but placed next to the box for the convenience of those in need, although this practice is not worth advocating and even goes against the moral behavior of the public.

In our understanding, some old people choose this road in order to get some limited rewards when they travel to and from the corner of the city, completely ignoring safety and hygiene. Generally speaking, it is because of the low threshold that it is the easiest to get money, and combined with the ability of the elderly, it is actually a helpless move to barely do this. This kind of situation mostly happens at the bottom of society. Old people don't have a fixed source of income, and maybe some of them are a drop in the bucket. This situation is the most worrying place.

On the other hand, the situation is slightly better than last time. They are also elderly people, but they do such things out of an instinct of thrift. They worked hard all their lives, and in their later years they met the good policies of the state and their children and lived a so-called good life. When people who have worked all their lives are suddenly idle, they often get restless, so they take materials nearby and try their best to get some income. Although the children don't agree with them, they can't resist their parents' insistence.
