Wencheng This is the fourth novel that Yu Hua has read. I have read Alive, Xu Sanguan Selling Blood and The Seventh Day written by Mr. Yu Hua before. Living is the first book I read, written by teacher Yu Hua. I remember that when I was alive, I lost my loved ones for wealth and left tears several times. I can't get over the tragic fate of the protagonist's life. It was also this book that made me know Mr. Yu Hua for the first time and filled me with admiration for him. I often wonder what kind of life experience and growing environment made Mr. Yu Hua write such a tragic novel.

Later, I learned from the information on the Internet that when Yu Hua was a child, his family lived near the hospital. Because his parents are both doctors, he has lived in the staff dormitory of the hospital since he was a child. As we all know, hospitals are probably the places that cry the most in the world. When welcoming a new life, there is a baby crying, when receiving the notification of illness again and again, there are anxious and helpless sobs from family members, and when the patient dies after treatment, there are painful cries from family members.

Yu Hua, who lived in a hospital since childhood, grew up crying all the time. The dormitory that the hospital assigned to their family happened to be at the entrance of the morgue. Therefore, what he heard the most since he was a child was the sad cry of his loved ones.

Living here for a long time, this experience deeply influenced his life, which made him have a deep understanding of life and death since he was a child, and also provided sufficient nourishment for his novels describing human sufferings and joys and sorrows in the future.

Whether it is "Living" or "Wencheng", it gives people a very worrying feeling. In a word, the background of the characters' life times, the description of the characters' personality characteristics, the description of the story and the ending of the protagonist's fate in Yu Hua's novels all give people a strong sense of substitution, as if they lived in the times he described, as if they had personally experienced the protagonist's life. The twists and turns of the protagonist's life also make readers' psychological feelings fluctuate with the development of the story.

In the first half of the novel, the hero Lin Xiangfu's father died of illness when he was five, and his mother left him when he was nineteen. He comes from a wealthy family. After his parents left, he was left with hundreds of acres of fields and six tile houses, as well as 17 big gold bars and 4 small gold bars.

Coincidentally, I met a runaway couple, A Qiang and Xiaomei, who lived in his house. From the first moment I saw Xiaomei, the man who grew up in the north fell in love with the beautiful and intelligent woman who grew up in the south.

Because A Qiang couldn't bear Xiaomei to travel aimlessly with him and live in the wild after spending all her savings, she lied that she and Xiaomei were brother and sister and wanted to go to Beijing to find a job with her uncle. His sister is ill and can't go with her. Ask him to take care of his sister first and come back to pick her up when he is settled there, but he didn't come back as soon as he left. After he left, Xiaomei was responsible for cleaning up the housework and cooking, and Lin Xiangfu was responsible for working in the fields and doing carpentry. On a night of thunder and rain, Xiaomei was afraid to climb into his bed, so after this time, they slowly moved in together. Later, Xiaomei left secretly one morning without saying goodbye because she missed A Qiang, and took away nearly half of the gold bars accumulated by the Lins for generations.

Lin Xiangfu found that Xiaomei left without saying goodbye and stole the gold bars at home. She felt that the sky was falling and she was desperate. A few months later, Xiaomei returned to Lin Xiangfu because she was pregnant with Lin Xiangfu's child. Because her heart is full of guilt and guilt, she feels that the child belongs to Lin Xiangfu, and she must give birth to the child in the Lin family.

After Xiaomei came back, honest and kind Lin Xiangfu suppressed her inner anger and forgave Xiaomei. However, Xiaomei gave birth to their baby, and when the baby was full moon, she left without saying goodbye.

He went all the way south, and when he met someone, he asked where Wencheng was. But no one knows where Wencheng is. Ask about Xiaomei and A Qiang, but no one knows Xiaomei and A Qiang. Finally, Lin Xiangfu came to Xixi Town, because the accent of Xixi Town is the most similar to Xiaomei and A Qiang. He firmly believes that Xixi Town is what Xiaomei and A Qiang call Wencheng. He wants to stay here until Xiaomei comes back.

In this way, Lin Xiangfu carried his daughter from house to house. Whenever he heard someone crying, he knocked at the door and begged for milk for the child. Because the child has eaten the milk of many lactating women, it is named Lin Baijia.

Later, Lin Xiangfu met Chen Yongliang in Xixi Town and lived in their home. The two became carpenters together like brothers, and Lin Xiangfu and his daughter settled in Xixi Town for more than ten years. Then in that era when bandits were rampant, Lin Baijia was kidnapped. As a girl, her daughter-in-law asked her son Chen to replace Lin Baijia.

Later, when he went to pay the ransom, because Lin Xiangfu sympathized with Chen, he decided to take the risk to find the bandit leader to pay the ransom and redeem Chen. Then Lin Xiangfu was brutally killed by the bandit leader Zhang Axe.

In the second half of the novel, Xiaomei was born in a poor family in the south, and her parents and brothers are honest young people. At the age of ten, she moved into Shenyang and became a child bride in Shenyang. Because her brother lost more than a dozen coppers selling pigs, he dared not go home to find her in town. She needed her help, so she hesitated, helped her brother, and took out more than ten copper coins from the till of her husband's darning shop to her brother. Mother-in-law was adamant after knowing this, insisting that her behavior was stealing and divorcing her. In those days, Xiaomei had to obey all the arrangements and commands of her mother-in-law. A Qiang can't leave Xiaomei who went back to her family. She went to Xiaomei's house to find her and took her to elope from the southern town of The Journey to the West.

Later, they spent all their savings and returned to Xixi Town. At this time, Lin Xiangfu and Xiaomei's daughter also found Xixi Town. Because many people went to the Chenghuang Temple to pray on a snowy day for more than half a month, A Qiang and Xiaomei also went. Xiaomei felt sorry for Lin Xiangfu and her daughter and said that she would be husband and wife with him again in the next life, even if she could not be husband and wife in the next life, she would repay Lin Xiangfu. In this way, because of inner guilt and guilt, Xiaomei and A Qiang knelt on the ground to pray and froze to death. Lin Xiangfu and Xiaomei finally met when his coffin passed her tombstone.

Throughout the novel, the protagonist Lin Xiangfu is the biggest victim. He is a sentient and righteous man, kind, upright, kind and loyal. It was his bad ending that made the bandits take their own lives.
